Avenson, Michael Leonard “Mike” born September 7, 1968 in Park Rapids MN to Merle and Jean (Christopherson) Avenson. Michael passed away at the age of 53 in his sleep on October 5, 2021. At 17 days old Michael had “coarctation of the aorta” surgery at the University of Minnesota. Since then, Michael faced heart issues and a heart attack in his early 40s. He grew up on a farm in Nevis, and was a proud class of ‘87 graduate of Nevis High School. He graduated from Staples Technical College in the farm mechanics program and machine trade program. He spent his whole working life as a machinist in the Twin Cities, working for Allen Company for over 20 years. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, working on machinery, and watching sports. As a child, he was active in 4-H, working on his family’s farm, and playing sports. After he grew up, he exhibited county educational booths for Cass County for 25 years at the Minnesota State Fair. He also was a Boy Scout leader for his son’s boy scout troop for many years. Michael is preceded in death by his father Merle Avenson. Survived by mother Jean Avenson (Christopherson), son Matthew Avenson, daughter Clara Avenson brother and sister in law Joel Avenson and Heather Avenson (Borchardt), brother and sister in law Randy Avenson and Jenny Avenson (Roberts), nephews Eric, Justin, Hunter, Paul, nieces Emily, Kate, and girlfriend Jill MacDonald.
