Virginia Ada Haapala, Age 97, of Menahga, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Rose Haven Assisted Living in Menahga. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church in Menahga. The visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the church, on Friday, March 21, 2025, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. The Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Virginia was born on March 25, 1927, in Dunfermline Scotland , to Max and Anna (Maroni) Wild. She grew up in Galashiels, Scotland, where she met her husband, George Edward Haapala. The two were united in marriage on October 5, 1945, and the couple had 13 children. Afterwards, the couple moved to Eckville, Alberta, Canada. They would go on to live in Atlantic Mine, Michigan, before settling in Menahga, Minnesota in 1973.
Virginia enjoyed reading, tending her flower garden, knitting, and cooking. She loved spending time with her family. Her faith was a pillar in her life, and she was a member of the Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN. Virginia will be remembered as fun-loving and for her sense of humor.
She is survived by her children: Anna (David) Simonson of Outlook, Saskatchewan, Canada; Maxine (Clayton) Ylioja of Birsay, Saskatchewan, Canada; David Haapala of Laduc, Alberta, Canada; Peter (MaryJane) Haapala of Menahga, MN; Tim (Mary) Haapala of Menahga, MN; Karen (Elmer) Skoog of Wadell, AZ; Philip Haapala of Menahga, MN; Yvonne (Jim) Skoog of Menahga, MN; Lawrence (Deb) Haapala of Menahga, MN; and Diane (Steve) Skoog of Menahga, MN; a sister, Ruth Cardinal; a sister-in-law, Estelle Haapala; son-in-law, Russell Hendrickson of Menahga, MN; 55 grandchildren, 247 great-grandchildren, and 34 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husband, George; three children, Michael Haapala, Marie Hendrickson, and Keith Haapala; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; her parents, Max and Anna; a sister, Sheila (James) Morrison; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Haapala.
