Robert "Bob" C. Moyer

November 24, 1923 — August 1, 2019

Robert (Bob) C. Moyer, 95, a longtime Osage area resident, peacefully passed from this life to eternal life Thursday, August 1st, 2019 at North Shore Health & Rehab under the care of Pathway Hospice in Loveland, CO.

Bob was born November 24, 1923, in Two Inlets Township to Raymond and Bessie (Tranker) Moyer.  He attended country school near his home where one of his teachers was his mother’s sister, Margaret (Trankner) Sexton.

Bob was inducted into the United States Army on January 8, 1944 at Fort Snelling, MN.  He faithfully served his country with Co I 508th Parachute Infantry (82nd Airborne), attending parachute and radio operator schooling at Fort Benning, GA.  He served as a paratrooper, radio operator low speed and heavy mortar operator with the 82nd and 101st Airborne in battles and campaigns at Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland and Central Europe.  In 1945 he was moved to Frankfort-Am-Main for occupation duty and served as a guard at General Eisenhower’s SHAEF Headquarters before being honorably discharged May 18, 1946 at Camp McCoy, WI.

After he returned home from military service he worked on the family farm, worked with a crew building grain bins across Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Iowa.  In 1946 Bob and his brother Don purchased the farm their grandfather, Herman Henry Tranker, had homesteaded in Two Inlets Township.  Bob and Don farmed together until Don’s marriage in 1961 when he sold his share of the farm to Bob and Erma.

In the fall of 1954 Bob went deer hunting with the Krueth family from the Kelliher/Saum MN area. Instead of harvesting a four-legged deer he won the heart of a beautiful young two-legged dear named Erma Krueth. On November 4th, 1955 Bob and Erma were married in Bemidji MN and this union was blessed with two daughters, Kayla and Jayne.

Bob and Erma operated a dairy farm until April 1996 when they sold the farm to his daughter and son-in-law, Kayla and Bob Zimmer.  Bob and Erma remained on the farm until the fall of 2014 when they moved to Colorado to stay with their daughter Kayla.  Bob was deeply saddened by Erma’s passing in June of 2015.

Bob loved building, remodeling and working with wood. He made many cedar chests, steamer trunks, china cabinets, gun cabinets, dressers, desks, sewing cabinets, kitchen cabinet doors and whatever else someone needed built from wood (preferably oak).  He enjoyed mowing the lawn and as much of the surrounding areas of the farm that were not under tillage.  He was a John Deere and a Ford man and proudly wore their caps and suspenders.

When the computer age hit he had to learn to use one and spent many hours making spreadsheets, cards, scanning pictures, playing games and particularly working online jigsaw puzzles. In the short time before his passing, he had sat up to the computer to begin working another jigsaw puzzle.  One monitor was never enough; he had two monitors so he could work his puzzles, read the news, monitor the Eagle Cam, the downtown Park Rapids camera and the weather at the same time.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by two daughters, Kayla Zimmer of Loveland CO and Jayne Moyer of Osage MN, grandson Jake Zimmer of Loveland CO, one sister Joyce Russell, sister-in-law Pat Moyer (Ron Wortman) of Osage MN, niece Becky (John) Dougherty of Mendota Heights MN, nephews Randy Moyer of Bee NE, Gary Moyer (Ron Monson) of Fergus Falls MN and Allen Moyer of Moorhead MN and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Erma, parents, mother, and father-in-law, Henry and Hazel Krueth, two brothers, Howard and Donald, infant sister, Julia Moyer, infant granddaughter Kelly Zimmer, niece, Yvonne Moyer, brother-in-law Douglas Russell and sister-in-law Ruth Moyer and son-in-law Robert Zimmer.
