RICHARD J. “Dick” FIELDSEND May 17, 1933 – June 5, 2020 Richard J. “Dick” Fieldsend, age 87, a lifelong Park Rapids, MN area resident, suddenly and unexpectedly departed this world for his heavenly home on Friday evening, June 5, 2020 at his home with his wife and sons at his side. Dick was born on May 17, 1933 to Robert W. and Genevieve Fieldsend at their home in Itasca State Park, Clover Township of Hubbard County, MN. He attended elementary school through the eighth grade in Hubbard and then went on to attend High School in Park Rapids from where he graduated with the Class of 1951. From July of 1953 to June of 1955, Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning the rank of Corporal. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Park Rapids and helped his parents on the family farm. Later he ventured to St. Petersburg, Florida where he worked in a milk bottling plant. His first three children were born in St. Petersburg. In 1966 they returned to Park Rapids where Dick became a sheet metal fabricator working in the heating and cooling industry. Throughout his lifetime, he installed many furnaces and air conditioners in and around the Park Rapids area. He was united in marriage to Judy Harsha on June 15, 1958. Dick and Judy have made their home for over 50 years in Henrietta Township where Dick enjoyed working with his farm animals. Over the years he raised and cared for cows, chickens, a pig, Shetland ponies and his four sons: Tim, Kevin, Jeff, and Chris. Dick was a talented woodworker, who enjoyed creating numerous Intarsia art pieces out of wood, which adorns his home today. He had taught himself how to play the accordion and piano by ear and enjoyed playing at family gatherings. Above all, Dick will be remembered as a man who devoted his life to his wife and family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 62 years, Judy; his four sons: Tim (Laurie) Fieldsend of Bremerton, Washington, Kevin (Ivy) Fieldsend of Devils Lake North Dakota, Jeff (Raelyne) Fieldsend and Chris Fieldsend all of Park Rapids; seven dearly loved grandchildren and five precious great-grandchildren; two brothers: Larry Fieldsend of Texas and Bob Fieldsend of Grand Rapids, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Avis Barth and a grandchild. Memorial services will be held at 6 PM Saturday, June 13th, 2020 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home. A time of visiting will begin at 5 PM. Dick’s four sons will serve as his urn bearers. Following the service, refreshments will be served. Inurnment will be made in the Hubbard Cemetery.
