Priscilla Ida Johanning

April 28, 1932 — December 14, 2024

Park Rapids

Priscilla Ida (Sheldon) Johanning, age 92, of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Hubbard, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Crystal Brook Senior Living with her family by her side.

Priscilla Sheldon was born on April 28, 1932, in Park Rapids, MN, the only daughter of the late Ellis and Ida (Kruse) Sheldon. Her mother died when she was 8 years old, and it was left to her to care for her 2 brothers which gave her a strong will and independent nature. She graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1950. After high school she went to work for Minnesota Power. When asked when she was going to get married, she always said “the second Tuesday of next week.” On Tuesday, June 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to Dave Johanning at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, MN. The groom was dressed and ready to go to church when he had to help his parents, who were also dressed for the ceremony, catch the cattle that had escaped their fence back in, a truly eventful day! They made their home on the Hubbard prairie and while her children were young, she was a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother.

In 1967, they moved to their permanent home and started Johanning Trucking, later Johanning and Sons Trucking, where she was operator, dispatch, bookkeeper, and anything else that needed to be done. She was also a member of the Hubbard School District school board. In her free time, she enjoyed yardwork, gardening, and crafting. She did oil paintings, quilted, knitted, crocheted, wood working, and in her later years, diamond art pieces. She knitted and crocheted hats for newborns at St. Joseph’s Hospital and used her woodworking skills to make holiday decorations for her family. She loved to bake sweets, and always had something on the counter for coffee time. She found joy of making special requested sweets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to bake pie when in assisted living for the staff and aids to enjoy with her. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and greats, always excited when they came to visit.

Priscilla is survived by her son, Timothy (Jeri) Johanning; daughter, Susan (Dave) Rugroden; 9 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Johanning; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Johanning; son, Thomas Johanning; parents, Ellis, and Ida Sheldon; and brothers, John, and James Sheldon.
