NILEEN RUTH GULLY

April 25, 1941 – December 9, 2018

                Nileen Ruth Gully, age 77, a lifelong Park Rapids area resident, peacefully passed from this life on Sunday, December 9, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones at the Essentia Health Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

                “Neen”, as she was often referred to, was born on April 25, 1941 in Pine River, MN to Albert and Esther (Larson) Thoreson.  As a young girl, she moved with her family to a small farm five miles north of Park Rapids.  She attended a one-room country school in Arago Township through the eighth grade.  She then attended high school in Park Rapids from where she graduated with the Class of 1958.  She was united in marriage to Robert Gully on December 12, 1959.  She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1961 and was very active in sharing her faith throughout her life.  Her marriage to Bob was blessed with two children:  Gary and Laura.  Nileen devoted her life to making a loving home for her husband and children.  She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade broasted chicken.  Each spring she looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden to help meet the needs of her growing family.   Nileen also enjoyed raising beautiful flowers into colorful splendor for all to see and enjoy.  She was skilled at crocheting and made many beautiful gifts for family and friends.  In her spare time she enjoyed working on puzzles, playing Gin Rummy with her sister, Helen and having lunch with her sisters and sisters-in-law.  

                Nileen will be lovingly remembered by her children:  Gary (Rachelle) Gully and her daughter, Laura Heltemes all of Park Rapids; her six dearly loved grandchildren: Andrew Star, Bobbie Gully, Nicholas Gully, Jenna Gully, Hanna Heltemes and Hailee Heltemes; her two sisters: Helen (Don) Barr and Betty (Rod) Holte all of Park Rapids; her brother, Terry (Gloria) Thoreson of Park Rapids; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

                Memorial services will be held 2 PM Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs’s Witnesses in Park Rapids.
