Naomi Wilkins
September 1, 1923 – June 12, 2019
Naomi Wilkins passed away peacefully at her home in Foreston, MN on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the age of 95.
Naomi Wilkins was born on September 1, 1923, in Tyler MN to Nels and Selma (Marcia) Mickelson.
Her family moved many times as she was growing up. At one school she won a whistling contest, even over the boys. When she was thirteen she left home to keep house for her 8 brothers on their farm. When threshing time came, she was up early preparing chickens to cook for the noon meal. She was a great cook and they requested that she cook their meals at the neighbor’s farm as they would be thrashing there next.
She met George Wilkins, the love of her life after her brothers moved to Milaca. On January 9th, 1945 they were united in marriage, it was the last day of George’s leave from the navy and it was the also the coldest day of the year.
Naomi loved baking, reading, crocheting, canning, birds, especially cardinals and hummingbirds, and Jesus. She was a wonderful mother and her family meant everything to her. She was a woman of deep faith in God, and she was not afraid to show others her faith. She would often ask people if they knew Jesus and were ready for heaven when the time came. She was deeply concerned and prayed much that all her children would know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
There are many good memories of Naomi. She would sing as she milked the cows, she had a song for each cow, putting the name of the cow in the song. She would interrupt the song to squirt milk into the open mouth of a hungry cat.
Naomi is survived by her children; Sharon (Paul) McKibben of Osage MN, Michael (Debra) Wilkins of Princeton, MN, Shannon (Gene) Powel of Milaca, MN, Daniel (Sharon) Wilkins of Milaca, MN, Susan Wilkins of Foreston MN, Tim (Deanna) Wilkins of Denver Co; her sister Estelle, Kroonblawd of Milaca, MN; sisters-in-law Dorothy Erickson of St. Paul, MN and Joan Mickelson of Neillsville, WI; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, her daughter Sandra, her parents, and 8 brothers and 1 sister.
Visitation will be held 10:30-12:00 PM Wednesday, June 19, 2019, followed by the funeral services at 12:00 PM at the Milaca Evangelical Free Church, Milaca, MN with Reverend Paul McKibben and Reverend Don Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Milaca, MN.
