MARY LOUISE ROBERTS

August 30, 1943 – February 17, 2020

                Mary Louise Roberts, age 76, of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Cottage Grove, MN, peacefully passed into Heaven’s glory on Monday morning, February 17, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

                Mary was born on August 30, 1943 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Louise (Eskman) Arvis.  In the mid-1950’s her family moved to Park Rapids, MN where she attended public school.  As a young woman, she was united in marriage to Bruce Horstman and they moved to the Twin Cities.  Their marriage was blessed with three children: Bruce, Julie, and Cynthia.  Tragically both Bruce and Julie died as infants.  Some years later, on September 1, 1973, Mary was united in marriage to William Roberts in the Twin Cities.  They were blessed with two children: Jason and Jolynn.  Mary and Bill happily made their home in Cottage Grove for many years, where in addition to caring for her family, she also owned and operated a home cleaning business.  In 2003, she and Bill returned to their home town of Park Rapids.  Mary worked as a Greeter at Walmart in Park Rapids for many years.  She will long be remembered for her delicious home-cooked meals and her baking.  She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and was an avid garage sales and thrift store shopper.  When time allowed she enjoyed taking road trips through the countryside.  Above all, Mary devoted her life to her children who she loved with all her heart. 

                She will be lovingly remembered by her three children:  Cynthia (Rick) Bachrodt of Cottage Grove, MN, Jason (Anna Hochstatter) Roberts of Park Rapids, MN and Jolynn (Scott) Ganther of South St. Paul, MN; her five grandchildren: Cole, Eva, Davin, Monty, and Lillian; three step-children: Sheryl (Dave) Bock of Brainerd, Scott (Michele) Roberts of Mound, MN and Daniel Roberts of Colorado;  her six siblings: Marge (Ray) Sands of Chicago Heights, IL, Frank Arvis of Dawson, MN, Eleanor Arvis of Fergus Falls, MN, Fran (Jim) Selberg of Crystal, MN, Pat (John) Lyke of Columbia Heights, MN, and Theresa (Tony) Lopaz of Rota, Spain; her special friend, Ray Larsen and her special and close niece, Connie (Russ) Carmichael of Park Rapids; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

                Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her two children in infancy: Bruce and Julie and her husband, Bill Roberts.

                Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with Deacon John Zinnel officiating.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services.  The casket bearers will be:   JoJo Ganther, Jason Roberts, Rick Bachrodt, Andy Roberts, Joe Lyke, Scott Ganther, Russ Carmichael, and Andrew Carmichael.  Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.  The honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren: Cole, Eva, Davin, Monty, and Lillian.
