Marlys Elaine (Nelson) Schave, age 73, of Park Rapids, MN passed away peacefully on December 5, 2020, at Essentia Health in Fargo, surrounded by her loved ones. Marlys was born on April 7, 1947, in Tracy, MN to Marlow and Selma Nelson. She graduated from the Balaton, MN High School with the Class of 1965 and then went on to Beauty School in the Minneapolis area. On May 27, 1967, Marlys was united in marriage to Roger Schave at the Sillerud Church near Balaton, Shortly after, Roger entered the United States Army, and she kept herself busy working in the hairdressing industry in Fulda and Worthington. In 1979, she purchased Hazel’s Beauty Shop in Park Rapids and a few years later renamed it “Total Image Salon”. Throughout the years, she developed many precious and lasting friendships with her employees and clients. In 1995, they moved her beauty shop to the basement of their home until she retired in April 2015. Marlys loved camping, bingo, sewing, bowling, golfing, scrapbooking and was a cookbook fanatic. Her cooking was fabulous! During the hockey years, she was known for the bullhorn she blew and using the phrase “scribble it” to encourage the players. She was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son, Randy (Sherry) Schave of Park Rapids; her daughter, Annette (Mark) Bethel of Park Rapids and her grandsons: Roger Lane Murphy and Brok Schave; Her sisters-in-law: Gladys Nelson of Monticello, MN; Sandy (Ed) Swanson of Englewood, FL and Dar Schave of LaCrosse, WI. Step-grandchildren: Tlayne, Carrie (Tyler); Cassie (Casey); Cole (MaKayla); Step-great grandchildren: Emersyn, Maddyn, Aubrey; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends. She has been preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger; son-in-law Michael Reichling; brothers Robert and Donald Nelson; her parents and parents-in-law. Funeral Services to be held on Saturday, December 19th, 2020 at 1 pm at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with Inurnment to take place at St. Peter's Cemetery in Balaton at a later date.
