Marlene Pearl Barg

December 7, 1963 — June 25, 2019

                Marlene Pearl Barg, age 55, a lifelong Park Rapids area resident, peacefully entered the glorious splendor of Heaven on Tuesday morning, June 25, 2019 after fighting a valiant battle against serious complications following open heart surgery at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.                 Marlene was born on December 7, 1963 in Park Rapids, MN to Frederick and Eloyse (Horstman) Barg.  She grew up and attended public schools in Park Rapids, graduating from high school with the Class of 1982.  She then went on to attend Moorhead State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 1987.  She then ventured to Forest Lake, MN where she taught for two years.  Marlene returned to the Park Rapids area where she served as a substitute teacher for the Park Rapids, Menahga, Nevis and Pine Point schools.  In the mid-1980’s, Marlene and Curtis Hawks purchased a farm in Straight River Township southwest of Park Rapids.  They were blessed with three children:  Sarah, Danielle and Cory.  From 1990 – 2006, Marlene worked as a lab tech and line supervisor for the US Department of Agriculture.  Marlene gained employment with the Lamb-Western-RDO Plant in Park Rapids and worked as a lab technician from 2007-2013.  During that time she enjoyed receiving recognition for serving five years with perfect attendance.  Marlene loved the outdoors and enjoyed embarking on adventures in the lakes and forests of northern MN with her children and grandchildren.  Each spring, she enjoyed raising colorful flowers.  Above all, Marlene devoted her life to her children and grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.                 She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Sarah Hawks of Park Rapids; Danielle Hawks of Osage and Cory Hawks of Park Rapids; as well as her two beloved grandsons: Jose Fajardo, Jr. and Bayard Carlson; three sisters: Phyllis (Henry) Berwald of Atlanta, GA, Laurel (Dallis) Miliander of Grand Rapids, MN and Linda (Wayne) Warmbold of Park Rapids; her brother, Frederick (Melissa) Barg, Jr. of North Branch, MN; her chosen sister, Shelly Grubb of Nevis, MN; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.                 She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Priscilla Thorpe and her brother, Wilbur.                 Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 6, 2019 at the Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids, MN. Her casket bearers will be:  Cory Hawks, Danielle Hawks, Michael Carlson, Jose Fajardo, Sr., and Dallis Miliander.  Her honorary casket bearers will be: Sarah Hawks, Jose Fajardo, Jr., Bayard Carlson, and Christopher Carman.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Friday evening, July 5 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and will continue beginning one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.  Interment will be made in the Arago-Evergreen-Clover Cemetery north of Park Rapids.  To leave on line condolences or to view the video tribute please visit www.jonespearson.com
