On March 14, 2021, the angels were at his side as Lyle Albert Zubke, age 84, passed away peacefully at the Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji, MN. Lyle was born on May 16, 1936 to Albert and Pearl (Pies) Zubke in LaPorte, MN. Lyle grew up in LaPorte, where he attended school through 8th grade when he left to help on the family farm. He was very proud when later in life he obtained his GED. Lyle joined the Army on June 6, 1955 and was honorably discharged on May 14, 1957. On October 26, 1957 Lyle married the love of his life, Shirley Harvey. They moved to Iowa where their daughter, Susan, was born. Shortly thereafter they moved to Lake George where they were blessed with sons Dale and Kevin. Lyle believed in helping others, his church and the community he lived in. He was a leader of Trinity Lutheran Church where he held the positions of President, Vice President and Elder. He was also instrumental in assuring the addition to the church become reality. He was the President of the Carpenters Union, was on the Lake George School Board, Fire Department and was a leader for 4H for many years. He was also a member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was a carpenter by trade and worked as a Foreman and Supervisor for Christenson Construction, Premo Construction and he retired from Diversifed Construction at age 62. As you drive around Bemidji you will see many of the buildings he worked on. Lyle's love of his family was the most important part of his life. He was married for 63 years to his wonderful wife, Shirley. He was always there for his three children as he attended all of their events and guided them through life. Lyle especially loved hunting, fishing and trapping. Each year he looked forward to his sons and grandchildren as they came to hunt with him for duck season. His 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren were his pride and joy and made him smile every day. Lyle is survived by his wife, Shirley, daughter Susan (Allen), and sons Dale and Kevin. His 8 grandchildren, Adam, Brandon, Chad, Ryan, Tyler, Rachel, Anna and Mari and 5 great grandchildren, Nora, Joseph, Lennon, Camilo and Carter. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joyce Harvey and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 brothers, 5 sisters and one nephew. Memorial services will be held 2 PM Sunday, March 28, 2021 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George with Reverend Donald Kirchner officiating. Visitation will begin at 1PM on Sunday. Interment will be made in the Lake George Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Star of the North Marine Corp League.
