LARRY G. SANDBERG September 10, 1929 – September 6, 2020 Larry G. Sandberg, age 90, free at last from pain early Sunday, September 6, passed away at his home with his wife at his side. Larry was born September 10, 1929 in Duluth, MN to George and Alma (Norman) Sandberg. He grew up in northern Minnesota where his love of the outdoors became a lifelong pleasure. While as a teenager, he worked with the forestry service and helped his father and brother log. He never sat still for 50 years. (Or so he said.) Larry taught school for several years, worked for social services in Ottertail County, was Park Director in Becker County and his prime employment was Becker County assessor in Detroit Lakes until retirement. Larry’s love of the forest was enhanced by belonging to Friends of Itasca for many years. Larry sang with the Barbershop Choir out of Moorhead, MN. He took Piano lessons from our friend Jody when he was in his 70’s. He wanted to learn notes. (He played by ear.) He was her oldest student. Larry and Trish met in 1997 and wed in 1999 and together built their home in the woods, emphasis on woods. Larry loved making trails and never quit planting ‘more’ trees. Dancing, playing golf, travel, dining out, and spending time with family and friends were happy times for Larry.
