Kitty Jean Vorel

KITTY JEAN VOREL March 12, 1958 – February 28, 2021 Kitty Jean Vorel, age 62, a life long Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully passed unexpectedly from this life to eternal life on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the CHI St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids. Kitty was born on March 12, 1958 in Fosston, MN to Loren and Betty (Arnold) Decker. As a baby, she moved with her family to Park Rapids where she attended Park Rapids Public Elementary School and went on to attend Park Rapids Public High School. She was united in marriage to Clinton Erickson in Park Rapids in 1974. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Kristy Ann. Kitty devoted herself to making a secure and loving home for Kristy. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade hot dishes. In 1980, Kitty began a serious relationship with Al Wagner of Park Rapids. They were companions for eleven years. When Kristy grew older, Kitty began working as a home health care aid. She was united in marriage to Bernard A. Vorel in 1999. They made their home in Hackensack until 2009, when they returned to Park Rapids. Kitty enjoyed working with her hands knitting all types of projects which she gave as gifts to family and friends. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed working in her garden nurturing her vegetables into fruitful abundance. She also enjoyed fishing with family and friends when time allowed. She was an avid card and dice player and always played to win. Most of all, she will be remembered as a woman who loved her family and was a loyal friend who enjoyed to invest her time in helping those she loved. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kristy McGee of Mesa, AZ; her step daughter, Cheryl Vorel of Thief River Falls, MN; her four step-sons: Jeff (Margaret) Vorel of Akeley, MN, Tim (Jan) Vorel of Faribault, MN, Steven (Vicki) Vorel of Backus, MN and David (Bernice) Thompson of Hackensack, MN; 13 dearly loved step-grandchildren and six precious great grandchildren; her sister, Cheryl (Wayne) Ronnebaum of Park Rapids and her brother, David Decker of Osage, MN; as well as her much loved nieces and nephews. Kitty was preceded in death by her parents; her two grandsons: Gavin and Dillon Erickson; her sister, Lorna Boyd; her brother, Rick Decker and her husband, Bernie Vorel. Services will be held this spring at a date to be announced at the Riverside Cemetery in Osage, MN where she will buried next to her grandsons: Gavin and Dillon.
