Judith "Judi" Nelson

Judith A. “Judi” Nelson, age 77, of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Lakeville, MN, peacefully passed into eternity in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 28, 2020, with her loving husband at her side. Judi was born in Minneapolis, MN on June 10, 1943, to Wilbur and Arvida (Johnson) Immel. She graduated from Southwest High School in Minneapolis with the Class of 1961. She went on to attend the Inver Grove Heights Community College where she studied Law Enforcement for four years. She worked as a dispatcher for the Burnsville Police Department in a 12-year career. On December 5th, 1978, Judi was united in marriage to John J. Nelson in Burnsville. They made their home in Lakeville until April of 1990 when they moved to Park Rapids, MN, and purchased the Spruce Hill Campground on Long Lake. They worked together in its operation and management as an efficient team for 30 years. Judi especially loved working with the campers each summer and referred to them as her “summer family”. Because the campground kept them busy April – October Judi and John enjoyed taking off a month each winter and traveling to warmer destinations with their mobile home. They also enjoyed planning family get-togethers out in Laughlin, Nevada. Judi will be lovingly remembered by her husband for these past 42 years, John of Park Rapids; her six sons: Lanny (Donette) Baumann of Oak Grove, MN, Tom (Angelette) Baumann of St. Francis, MN, Steve (Tracy) Baumann of Cottage Grove, MN, Steve (Sue) Nelson of Burnsville, Pat (Terry) Nelson of Pheonix, AZ and Jerry (Krissy) Nelson of Hibbring, MN; 14 dearly loved grandchildren and three precious great-grandchildren; her sister, Donnette (Mike) Hilton of Titusville, FLA; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one stepbrother. Private services are being planned with burial to be held at the beautiful Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
