John “Jack” Wattenhofer, age 91 of Ponsford, MN, peacefully passed into Heaven on September 17, 2023, at the CHI Park Rapids Health Hospital. John was born on September 22, 1931, in Minneapolis to Joseph and Anna Gertrude Wattenhofer. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Grade School and then went on to Edison High School where he graduated in 1950. He began working as an apprentice cabinet maker for the Conrad Manufacturing Co. in Minneapolis. In 1952 he entered the Army and went off to fight in the Korean War until receiving his honorable discharge in 1954. He returned to work at Conrad Mfg. until they closed. He then went to work for other cabinet making companies. He retired in 1995 from Kloster Madson Construction company where he was the Forman of the cabinet shop. After retirement he moved permanently to the home, he had built in the Ponsford area and continued to build cabinets for local contractors and private parties. He enjoyed living in the North Woods, liked to drive around to see what was happening on the prairie and visiting friends and relatives. Jack is survived by his three sisters: Joanne (George) Messing, Diane (Dave) Vos, Susan (Joe) Menning; brother: Donald (Ruth) Wattenhofer and 19 nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Anna Gertrude Wattenhofer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice or Living at Home and request memorial go to Veterans Only or the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation at 920 E 28TH ST STE 100, Minneapolis MN 55407-1191 (WWW.MPLSHEART.ORG) Imediately following services everyone is invited to the cemetery for burial. Those not wishing to attend the burial are welcome to have lunch and view the slide show in the lower level of the church and the family will join you shortly.
