Janet Marlene Gruis

Janet Marlene Gruis, age 80 a Nevis, MN area resident, passed from this life to eternal life on, January 14, 2022, at the Essential Health in Fargo, North Dakota. Janet Gruis was born on December 17, 1941, in Park Rapids, Minnesota. Her parents were Vernon and Ruth (Branham) Vogtman. Janet graduated from the Park Rapids High School with the class of 1959. Growing up she enjoyed working her summer job at the ‘Original’ Dairy Queen in Park Rapids. On May 28, 1960, Janet was united in marriage with Darrel Gruis at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Lynn, Michele, and Michael. Janet and Darrel enjoyed working side by side on the farm and at the seed store as they made their home in rural Nevis. Janet was the bookkeeper for the Park Rapids Seed House for more than 30 years and Henrietta Township for over 40 years. She also was employed with Konshok’s and Ringer Manufacturing. Janet’s passion was knitting, crocheting, sewing, flower gardens, gardening, and canning. She loved playing cards with family and friends and was a member of the Blue Star Mothers. She was a long-time member of the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. She was a member of the choir, quilt group, book study and bible study groups, and member of the LWML ladies’ group where she helped with many church dinners and lunches. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Ruth Vogtman, brother, Wallace, and her Grandson, Scott in 1994 Janet is survived by her husband of 61 years, Darrel Gruis of Nevis, Daughters; Lynn (Leo) Gartner of Park Rapids, Michele (Dan) DeCrans of Nevis; son, Michael (Eva) Gruis of Nevis, six grandchildren; Andrew, Kristin, Kenneth, Robert, Charlotte, Jacob, three great grandchildren; Madison, Oliver, Elliot and 1 arriving in April. She will be remembered and greatly missed. Visitation will be held 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Jones Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN. Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022, at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, at 11: 00am. Pastor Chris Davis will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Spring 2022 at Greenwood Cemetery.
