GARY ELWOOD WORSTER
June 18, 1943 – August 22, 2018

Gary Elwood Worster, age 75, of Menahga, MN, peacefully entered the glory of Heaven, while enjoying the peace and comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 22, 2018, following a valiant battle with cancer.

Gary was born on June 18, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa to Gordon and Georgia (Trenary) Worster.  As a small boy, he spent his early years in Emmetsburg, Iowa where his dad owned and operated the Rainbow Café.  In 1950, the Worster family moved to the Menahga area where they purchased a 200+ acre farm on the Shell River.  He attended country school near his parent’s farm.  He went on to attend high school in Park Rapids where he graduated with the class of 1961.  Gary studied to become an electronics technician at the Wadena Area Vocational-Technical College.  On Sept 8, 1962, Gary was united in marriage to Carol Ramona Martin at the First Baptist Church in Park Rapids.  Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Nancy and two sons: Jerry and Kelvin.  They made their first home in Wadena before moving to Minneapolis where Gary worked for Control Data for a time before moving to Amery, Wisconsin where he worked for another electronics company called Fabri-Tech.  In 1968, they moved to 528B Easy Street in Mountain View, California where Gary worked for the Ampex Company.  In the early 1970’s, they returned to the Park Rapids area where they settled on the original Worster farm just north of Menahga on highway 71.  Gary worked for the Ben Franklin Store, Menahga Concrete, the Wadena County Zoning Office and the North Star Lumber Company in Menahga before starting a 22-year career with the Lamb-Weston/RDO Company until his retirement in January of 2012.  Gary possessed a strong faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Park Rapids.  He was a prolific reader and filled his entire life with gaining knowledge.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife and soulmate for the past 56 years, Carol of Menahga; his three children: Nancy Worster of Menahga, Jerry (Kris) Worster of Houston, TX and Kelvin (Janet) Worster of Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley and his brother, Terry.

Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Park Rapids with the Rev. Joshua Hawn officiating.  Al Henderson will serve as the pianist. Special music will include a vocal duet of “My Mother’s Bible” performed by Rev. Josh and Amy Hawn.  Evelyn Hawn will perform a piano solo of “In The Garden”.  The urn bearers will be Gary’s grandchildren.  Interment will be made in the family plot located at the Greenwood Cemetery.  Following the service, a luncheon will be hosted by the First Baptist Church family.
