Eugene Francis Niemela

Eugene Francis Niemela, age 84, of Menahga, formerly of St. Paul, entered eternity on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at his home Eugene was born on March 30, 1938 to Asher and Sylvia (Pietila) Niemela at the family farm near Menahga. He attended the District 63 Country School and then went on to High School in Menahga where he graduated with the Class of 1956. As a young man he entered the United States Army and served from his base in Germany for most of his service. After receiving his honorable discharge he gained employment in St. Paul,working for Norwest Bank in a career that lasted until his retirement in the early 1990's. He then returned home and lived out the rest of his years at his parent's home farm where he died in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 11, with his sister, Hilda at this side. Eugene loved the out of doors especially; when he could be out hunting or fishing. He enjoyed dogs and cats. Eugene will be lovingly remembered by his two sisters: Joan Wehmas of Osage and Hilda Niemela of Menahga; two brothers: Arnold (Dagmar) Niemela of Willow River and James (Ann) Niemela of Brooklyn Park as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and l sister, Vera and one brother, Roger. Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, March 25 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, with Rev. Loren Ferch officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Following the service, a lunch will be held at the Menahga Sr. Citizens Center.
