David Thelen

David George Thelen was born to James and Patricia (McGarry) Thelen on November 23, 1961 in Minneapolis, MN. He attended Benson High School and continued his education at Wilmar Vo-Tech, Wilmar, MN. Dave grew up in Benson, MN and went to the Twin Cities to follow his passion of music. He was a skillful guitar player and a songwriter. He was also a talented sound engineer and was uniquely gifted at recording music. He enjoyed working with a variety of bands during live shows and with songwriters as he implemented their ideas and constructed instrumental parts. Many musicians and fans would comment on the quality recordings that Dave was able to master. He was full of life and resilience despite difficult health challenges and was a good friend to many. He will be deeply missed. Dave is survived by his daughters: Brittany Pfeffer, Cara (Rigo) Huerta; 3 grandchildren: Victoriano, Lorenzo and Lucian Huerta; father, James Thelen Sr.; siblings: James (Julie) Thelen; Betsy (Phillip) Grinder; 2 nephews: Nick and Trevor Thelen; and many other relatives and friends. Dave passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 in St. Cloud, MN at the age of 59. He was preceded in death by his mother Patricia; brother John Thelen; both paternal and maternal grandparents.
