Daniel Wayne Schroeder, 62, of Park Rapids, MN, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Hillcrest Senior Living, in Red Lake Falls, MN. Daniel was born on March 18th, 1961 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids, MN, the son of Wayne and Suz (Corlene) Schroeder. He grew up in Park Rapids, MN and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1979. He worked on his parent’s dairy and grain farm and also at the Lamb Weston R.D.O. potato processing plant following graduation. Dan received a degree in Agricultural Technology at Detroit Lakes Technical College in 1980 and a degree in Sales Management at Bemidji Vocational College in 1986. He attended Fort Smith Auction School in Fort Smith, AR. in 1988, which surprised us all given his quiet demeaner. He was a diligent blood donor, giving 20 times by 2010. In June of 2010, Dan was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. In July of 2013, he was moved into Care Age Country Home east of PR. While there, he enjoyed walking the trails at the facility and feeding the birds and deer. He enjoyed many card games with his mom and helping the older residents. In 2017, he was transferred to Moorhead Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Moorhead, MN. He was then moved to Hillcrest Senior Living in Red Lake Falls, MN in January of 2022, to be closer to family. In his younger years, he was involved in FFA, 4-H and ACT (Active Christian Teens). He enjoyed singing, and played guitar and the trombone. As an adult, Dan was an avid bowler, square danced with the Friendly Squares, enjoyed bicycling, cross-country skiing, and liked to sing Karaoke. Daniel was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Park Rapids where he was a lifetime member. He enjoyed worshiping, attending Bible study, running the PowerPoint, and playing guitar with the worship team. He loved fishing with his family, on the ice or in a boat! He could scale those bluegills faster than most folks. As his health deteriorated, he enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, doing word scrambles, playing cards or BINGO, and reading his bible and devotions to pass the time. Dan was a man of few words, but loved people and was loved by many. If he could lend a helping hand to someone, he never would hesitate. At Hillcrest he enjoyed watering the plants, playing cards, doing puzzles, and would never miss a meal or snack time. Hillcrest staff were like family to Dan, and they could often get him chuckling by a funny story or just joking with him. Dan had a quiet and tender faith, and was often brought to tears by a beloved hymn. His love for Jesus, his Savior, seemed to help him through the rough times of his disease. Daniel is survived by his sister Peggy (David) Miller of Red Lake Falls; niece, Mikayla (Benjamin) Tabert of Red Lake Falls; nephew Josh Miller of Brooklyn Park, MN; great nephew Liam Tabert and great niece Thea Tabert, both of Red Lake Falls, MN; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents Wayne and Sue (Corlene) Schroeder. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Parkinson's Foundation ND/MN chapter or The Assistance Fund.
