Conrad George Schmid

August 22, 1959 — July 1, 2020

Conrad George Schmid August 22, 1959 - July 1, 2020 Conrad George Schmid, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2020. Conrad was affectionately known to many as “Uncle Monkey” or “Raddy”. He got these nicknames because he was always playing (or instigating) with the kids and he was known to be “radical” in life. Conrad was born to James and Mary (Pickett) Schmid in Park Rapids on August 22, 1959. At the age of 5, his family moved to Backus, MN. Conrad graduated from Backus Public Schools in 1977, where he completed a vocational certificate in automotive repair. Conrad enlisted in the Army Reserve and completed his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 1977. He moved to Bend, Oregon in 1979 where he joined the National Guard. His National Guard unit was in a documentary about the volcanic eruption of Mount St. Helen. Conrad attended Central Oregon Community College for Industrial Technology. He also took classes at Oak Hills Christian College in Bemidji. Conrad was married in September 1977 to Robin (Jacoby) Schmid. They were married for 21 years and their union was blessed with two children, Eric E. Schmid, and Tyler J. Schmid. In March of 2005, Conrad met his current wife, Lynn (Sannes) Schmid. They were married in February of 2006 and this union blessed him with two step-children; Jennifer and Jeremy. Conrad was a person with an unforgettable personality. He was never one to stay still, nor afraid to work hard, while giving his all to every job he had. He was always looking for a better way to get things done and was never afraid to learn or try new things. He had the motto “Work Smarter, Not Harder”. Over the span of his adult life in Minnesota, Conrad worked for Coca-Cola in Eagan, Viracon in Owatonna, Potlach in Bemidji, worked in the logging industry with his brother, and owned a few of his own businesses: Schmid Mechanic contracting, Schmid Electric, and CRET, Inc. Conrad was also employed by Oak Hills Christian College as an Electrician for 9 years. He then went on to work at various places where he was able to use his multitude of knowledge and skill in each position. Most recently, Conrad and Lynn had established their business, Electric Atom, where he was in his element doing what he loved as a master electrician while connecting with so many different people. To say he was a technical expert in his field would be an understatement. Conrad had a passion for life, living it on his terms. Conrad placed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ for his salvation. He spoke of John 3:16-17. His Faith in God was important to him. Conrad had a great love for sharing as many experiences as he could with anyone who wanted to be involved. This could be seen in his willingness to mentor those who showed interest in learning. Conrad’s loves in life include family first, motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeler riding, and being outdoors whenever able. He enjoyed nature and the preservation of it was important to him. He loved his flowers, gardening, canning, and making syrup. Conrad’s laugh and trademark childish giggle were the best when he was excited about what he was talking about. Conrad was a dedicated and proud husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, mentor and so much more to anyone that had the privilege to know him. His greatest joys were his family and his work. Conrad will always be remembered for his infectious laugh that had the ability to rouse the room and his unwavering love of life, and the Vikings. Conrad will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Schmid; his children: Eric (Meg) Schmid; (Robin Schmid Eric’s mother), Jennifer (Dwayne) Johnson, Jeremy (Kim) Jenkins; his grandchildren: Janessa, Anna, Randall, Dwayne, Kian, Malik, D’Andre, Elle, Carlton, Jason, Laura, Erica, Alex; His father, James Schmid; His siblings: David (Jan) Schmid, Mary Jo (Dean) Chandler, Margaret (Jeff) Vorel, Tim (Kjersten) Schmid; Nieces and Nephews: Davey Jr (Becky), Mindy (Chad), Vanessa (Brendan), Jeff (Ruby), Danelle (Matt), Allison (Justin), Nate, Teaira, James (Makayla), Rhonda, Ryan, Matt, Allison, Emma, Noah, Marcie, Jori, and Avigail; and 39 great and great-great nieces and nephews.
