Charles Allen Alberg

Charles, "Charlie", "Chuck" Alberg, former owner and operator of Northern Star Resort and a long- time resident of Park Rapids, MN died on December 16, 2021 at the age of 82 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. He was born in Bertha, MN on November 26,1939 to Clifford and Gladys (Warmbo) Alberg. He served honorably in the U.S. Army for three years. He was stationed in Germany during the Cold war era and when the Berlin Wall was erected. He attended St. Cloud State College for one year, where he met his future wife, Pat Johnson. On November 24,1962, Chuck and Pat married and later welcomed four children. They moved from Minneapolis to Park Rapids where they purchased the Northern Star Resort On Little Sand Lake in 1978, which they ran and operated until 2009. It is there where Chuck and Pat worked endlessly to transform a fishing resort into a restful and fun family retreat. He remodeled all 8 cabins and made a home away from home for many families who enjoyed life-long memories and giving him many fond memories. Chuck was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, avid reader, talented artist, built four cedar strip canoes. He was a dedicated flower gardener who built 7 beautiful window flower boxes that surrounded their home in beauty every summer. He loved to walk 5 to 10 miles per day (the Heartland Trail was a favorite trek from Park Rapids to Dorset or Nevis) and was an active environmentalist. He was known by his family and friends to be selfless and committed in everything he did. He volunteered to be a Foster Grandparent for many years and was known as "Grandpa Chuck". He loved helping the children at Century School improve their reading skills. Chuck is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" (Johnson) Alberg, his children, Sherri (Larry), Tracy, Mike (Trudi) and Cindy (Jamie). His sisters, Inez and Joan, sister-in-law Judy and her husband Earnie, his Grandchildren Rachel, Taylor, Cole, Erin, Morgan, Stone, Jordan, Courtney, Ethan, Genna, and Caleb, his great- grandchildren Carter, Laine, and Kinsley. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
