ARTHUR ELLIS MILLS December 10, 1931 – November 19, 2020 Arthur Ellis Mills, age 88, of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Nevis, MN and Des Moines, Iowa, peacefully passed from this life to eternal life on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN. Art was born on December 10, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa to George Frances and Elda (DeMoss) Mills. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy and received his naval training in San Diego, CA. He later transferred to the Astoria, Oregon Naval Base where he served for two years. It was there that he met and fell in love with Marceline (Marcy) Kernan and they were married on August 10, 1952 in Portland, Oregon. To this union two sons were adopted: Michael LeRoy and Kevin Leon. In 1953, Art was assigned to the U.S.S. Tolwan AO64 where he spent a year touring the oceans of the Far East. He received his honorable discharge in 1954. He then worked in his civilian life as a professional cross country truck driver. He invested his life driving for the Beckin Van Lines of Des Moines Iowa for 19 years, Gabor Trucking of Detroit Lakes, MN for three years, and then rounded out his trucking career driving 22 years for the Coast Bros. Trucking Company of Fargo, ND. Art enjoyed working with wood, fishing, and camping in his spare time. He spent 7 winters in Texas and then went to work for the Wal-Mart Store in Park Rapids as an assembler in January of 2006 and worked until his retirement in 2016. Art will be lovingly remembered by his dear friend, Inez Ruegemer of Park Rapids; two sons: Michael (Kitty) Mills of Montrose, MN and Kevin Mills of Mahnomen, MN; his sister, Darlene Fitzgerald of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcy; his two brothers: Roy and Harold, and two sisters: Evelyn and Ethel.
