Alvin Christopher Prussner
June 3, 1928 – March 21, 2019
Alvin Christopher Prussner of Park Rapids, MN, died peacefully at home March 21, 2019.
Al was born June 3, 1928, to Alvin and Marie Prussner in Laurens, IA. Upon graduating from Olivia, MN, High School in 1946, he enlisted in the Navy, where he served for four years. While stationed in San Diego, CA, he met his wife of 67 years, Frances Paul. After their marriage on June 10, 1951, Al and Fran moved to Tulsa, OK, where Al studied to be an aircraft mechanic and pilot at Spartan School of Aeronautics. Al’s first flying and mechanic jobs took them to Stanton, MN, where he worked for Triangle Aviation. In 1956 he was hired by Capital Airlines, and later United Airlines, for which he flew for over 29 years. It was during this period that Al and Fran moved to Northfield, MN, and eventually purchased a farm east of town where they raised their family, and several flocks of sheep. After retiring from United in 1985, he and Fran moved to Palmer Lake near Hubbard, MN, where they enjoyed lake living and Al honed his woodworking skills. Al was an active member of Hubbard United Methodist Church, the Park Rapids Community Band, Palmer Lake Association, and volunteered at Northern Pines Camp.
Al is survived by his wife, Frances, of Park Rapids; son David, of Northfield; daughter Laura (Eric) Nordstrom, of Glenwood; son Tom (Martha) of Maple Grove; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Hubbard United Methodist Church choir or the United Methodist Committee on Relief.
A memorial service will be held at Hubbard United Methodist Church, Hubbard, MN, in early June.
