Agnes Jacobson

AGNES JACOBSON August 27, 1929 – October 20, 2018                   Agnes Jacobson, a long time Park Rapids area resident, peacefully entered eternal life on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN.                 Agnes was born on August 27, 1929 in Sisseton, South Dakota to Albert and Anna (Thurston) Rolstad.  She attended country school near her parents’ farm through the eighth grade before going on to attend high school in Sisseton, graduating with the Class of 1947.  She then attended Normal Teacher’s Training in Aberdeen, South Dakota and taught in rural schools throughout Roberts County, SD for several years.  On June 3, 1950, Agnes was united in marriage to Erling Jacobson.  They were blessed with three children: Arlyce, Marlys and John.  In 1951, the young couple ventured to northern MN and purchased a farm on the east side of Park Rapids.  This farm is still under family ownership today.  Agnes loved farm life and worked right along side her husband in helping with the daily chores of feeding and milking their dairy cows, tending to their pigs and helping with the field work.  In addition, for many years, Agnes served as a custodian at the Calvary Lutheran Church, much of the time in a team effort with her husband, Erling.  Her faith was an essential part of her life.  She was a long time faithful member of Calvary where she taught both Sunday School and Wednesday release time classes.  She also served for a number of years on the church council.  For many years she served as a 4-H leader, was a member of the Homemakers Club,  a member of the Sons of Norway and the Farmers Union.  Throughout her life, she enjoyed being outside working on her beloved farm.  Each spring she looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden and raising beautiful flowers into colorful splendor for all to see and enjoy.  Above all, Agnes devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.                 She will be lovingly remembered by her three children:  Arlyce (Jerry) Johnson of Audubon, MN, Marlys (Don) Eikmeier of St. Cloud, MN and John (RaeAnn) Jacobson of Thief River Falls, MN;  nine dearly loved grandchildren and nine precious great grandchildren; her three sisters: Florence (Jake) Jacobson of Park Rapids; Hilma (Dean) Thompson and Betty Peterson both of Sisseton, SD; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.                  Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Erling in 1997; and two brothers: Art Rolstad and Merle Rolstad.                 Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Calvary Lutheran Church of Park Rapids with the Pastor Justin Fenger officiating.  The organist will be Martha Thompson. Eulogies will be given by her daughter, Marlys Eikmeier and the Rev. Roger Olson. The casket bearers will be: Jordan Jacobson, Brock Jacobson, Whitney Jacobson, Mitch Johnson, Dan Eikmeier and Tim Hensel. Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery next to her husband.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Thursday, October 25 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and again at the church on Friday beginning one hour prior to the service.  To view the video tribute or to leave online condolences please visit www.jonespearson.com
