DOROTHY L. BAJENSKE January 15, 1930 ~ March 17, 2009Dorothy L. Bajenske, age 79 of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN. Dorothy was born January 15, 1930 to Anton and Frances (Patyk) Bajenske. For most of her life, Dorothy lived on the family dairy farm outside Menahga, where she helped milk cows and perform household chores. Dorothy loved nature, taking long walks in the woods, spending time with her cats, and hobbies such as latch hooks and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed the family outings of fishing and blueberry picking. Dorothy was known for having a green thumb and tended her plants throughout her life. In her later years, Dorothy resided in a Mahnomen group home and worked through the DAC at jobs such as maintenance at the Shooting Star casino's bingo hall. During the past year, Dorothy lived in a Detroit Lakes group home. She enjoyed both group homes' outings to shopping, restaurants, and community activities, along with caring for the household plants and fish. Dorothy was always in good spirits, pleasant, and kind. The family extends a thank you to the group homes and to her guardian, John Hite, of Detroit Lakes for their special care in Dorothy's later years. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Johnson, of Port Charlotte, Florida and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Frances Bajenske; brother, Marcel Bajenske, brother, Duane Bajenske, sister, Dolores Ylitalo, and brother, Anton Bajenske. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 27 at the Cardini-Pearson funeral home in Menahga. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. A separate Memorial Service will be held on June 20, 2009 at the Cardini-Pearson funeral home in Menahga.
