DARYL A. SELLS October 3, 1934 " March 30, 2009Daryl A. Sells, age 74 of Akeley, MN, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND. Daryl was born on October 3, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN to Mark and Anneleise (Ebner) Smith. She attended the Ascension Catholic Elementary School in Minneapolis through the eighth grade and then went on to attend North High School from where she graduated in 1952. In 1954, Daryl was united in marriage to David R. Kalla in Minneapolis. This union was blessed with six children: Peggy, David, Patrick, Marcy, John and James. The young family made their home in Minneapolis where Daryl devoted her self to being a wonderful cook and making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. For a number of years, Daryl drove taxi for the Yellow Taxi Company in Minneapolis. In the early 1970"s, Daryl began her own residential cleaning business which she operated throughout the Minneapolis area. In 1977, she ventured northward to the Akeley, MN area where she worked several seasons at Badaoura Nursery and later cleaned cabins until her retirement. In 1982, she was united in marriage to Norris "Nick" Sells in Oregon. Daryl and Nick enjoyed traveling together and spent many winters in Arizona. She was deeply saddened by the death of Nick in 2003 and the death of her son, John in 2006. Daryl had a deep love for animals and especially enjoyed her dogs and horses. She had a profound love for music and found country music to be extra meaningful. Daryl loved to dance. When her children were younger she enjoyed taking them camping and fishing and to the movies. Above everything else in her full and busy life, Daryl dedicated herself to her children and grandchildren who she loved with all her heart. She will be lovingly remembered by her five children: Peggy Blanton of Deer Park, WI., David Kalla of Minneapolis, MN, Patrick Kalla and Marcy (Ray) Phillippi both of Akeley, MN, and James (Gail) Kalla of Nevis, MN; her step-son, Logan Sells of Park Rapids; 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two brothers: John (Carol) Smith and James Smith all of Minneapolis; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Daryl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norris "Nick" Sells; her son, John Kalla and one brother, Mick Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis with Father Duane Pribula and Pastor Chris Conger officiating. Interment will be made next to her son, John in the White Oak Cemetery near Chamberlain. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
