RUTH ALIINA OLSON April 24, 1925 ~ July 4, 2009 Ruth Aliina Olson died at St. Joseph"s Hospital in Park Rapids the evening of July 4th due to pneumonia following several years of declining health. Ruth was born in Wadena County on April 24, 1925 to Olaf and Alina (Wiitasalo) Liimatta. She attended #28 Country School in Wadena County through the eighth grade and graduated from Menahga High School in 1942. Following graduation, she worked at the defense plant in Minneapolis for two years and returned to Menahga. She was united in marriage to Ansel Olson on October 25, 1947. Together they had eight children. Ruth was a homemaker and worked on the family farm while the children were growing. Later, she worked at Howie"s Clothing in Menahga where she especially enjoyed creating the window displays. She worked in the laundry department of Green Pine Acres Nursing Home for 12 years before retiring. Ruth was known for her love of home and family. She made her home pretty and her gardens thrive. She was artistic and enjoyed water color and acrylic painting, embroidery and other crafts. Ruth was modest and very private, and she did not want attention or thanks for her help or gifts. She enjoyed taking trips and traveled to many states to visit family and see the sights. She took great pleasure in her 15 grandchildren and 10 great"grandchildren who loved her hugs and knew where she kept the candy jar. Ruth will be sorely missed by her husband of 62 years, Ansel Olson; and by her children, Carlotta and Donald Stomberg of Minneapolis, Ronald and Elizabeth (Carlson) Olson of Menahga, Brenda and Glenn Pederson of Oylen, MN, Leland Olson of Menahga, Timothy Olson of Park Rapids, MN, Tamara and Lon Schaffer of Lamoure, ND, and Rhonda and Jim Meer of Wilmar, MN; a special niece, Linda Walz of Rice, MN; her sisters, Arlene Rasmussen of Brooklyn Center, MN, Bonnie Kohley of Greenville, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald; brothers, Fritz, Clinton, Cliff, and Donald; and by her sister, Pearl. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Laestadian Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN with Reverend Loren Ferch officiating. Organist will be Mary Hanninen. Soloists will be Mary Hanninen who will sing "Amazing Grace" and Nita Steinbrecher who will sing "My Need." Congregational hymns will be "The Old Rugged Cross" and & "In The Garden" Casketbearers will be: Jeremy Stomberg, Stephen Stomberg, Ryan Lehner, Rory Lehner, Marc Olson, Nathanial Quinn, Morgan Quinn, and Nicholas Quinn. Honorary Casketbearers will be: Daniel Leckner, Dustin Olson, Thomas Meer, Charles Meer, Aliina Meer, Grace Meer and Diana Jettmann. Interment will be made in the Menahga City Cemetery in Menahga, MN. Arrangements provided by the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home serving Menahga and Sebeka, MN.
