JOHN GEORGE GLATZMAIER JR. January 8, 1929 ~ July 4, 2009 John George Glatzmaier Jr., age 80 of Minneapolis, MN formerly of Park Rapids, MN, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. John was born to John Sr. and Amelia (Dubuque) Glatzmaier on January 8, 1929 in Washington. John Sr. made the United States Navy his career and the family moved frequently. After Amelia"s untimely death in 1938 John Jr., at the tender age of 9, went to live with his aunt and uncle, Tony and Mona Glatzmaier on the family farm north of Two Inlets, MN. He attended Park Rapids High School graduating with the class of 1948. John remained on the farm until joining the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy for four years, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He served in Europe, Guam and many other parts of the world. John retired from the Air Force in 1970 and returned to the Park Rapids area. He liked to travel, via Greyhound bus, all over the United States. He enjoyed a good meal and he loved watching movies. Comedies and musicals were his favorites. John was a member of St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids. John resided in various care facilities before settling in at University Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis. John is survived by his sisters and brother, Gloria (Frank) Michelizzi of Duluth, MN, Ann (Bob) Wagner of Park Rapids, MN, Bart (Nancy) Glatzmaier of Park Rapids, MN, and Loralie (Bob) Crep of Park Rapids, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerome and one infant sister, Marie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids with Father Thomas Friedl officiating. Organist will be Joy Horejsi. Special music will be provided by St. Peters Alleluia Choir. Active Casketbearers will be friends and family. Military honors provided by Star of the North Marine Corp League. Taps will be rendered by Ray Vaadeland. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Cemetery in Park Rapids.
