Millie was born on October 3, 1920 to Alfred and Inga (Kittelson)Oines near Arlington, South Dakota. She attended country school near her parent"s farm. As a young woman, Millie ventured to Brookings, South Dakota where she gained employment working as a sales clerk in a department store. She began a serious relationship with a local South Dakota boy, George Theodore Pottratz while he was serving his country as a member of the United States Navy. As George was serving in the South Pacific of World War II the young couple constantly exchanged letters and grew in their knowledge and love for each other. On January 11, 1946, while George was home on leave, they were united in marriage in Minneapolis. This union was blessed with one son, Jerald Lee Pottratz. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1947, the young couple moved to Park Rapids, MN where they made their home for the rest of their days together. In addition to making a warm and loving home for her family, Millie also worked for many years in the kitchen at the St Joseph"s Hospital in Park Rapids and later for Dahl"s Bakery in Park Rapids. She was a long time member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids where she participated in the ladies aid ministry. Millie had also been involved for many years in the TOPS Club of Park Rapids. She was a woman of many interests. She loved the out of doors and spending time in her garden. Her life was deeply saddened by the death of her only child, Jerry in 1999 and the death of her husband and soulmate, George in 2003. This past year, due to her failing health, Millie had become a resident of the New Brighton Care Center where she could be closer to her grandchildren and great grandsons.
