John Fair officiating.VISITATION : From 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga.INTERMENT : Alajoki CemeterySURVIVORS : He is survived by 2 daughters: Barbara (Jerry) Bake of Blaine, MN and Betty (Jim) Johnson of Menahga, MN; 3 sons: Fordyce Jr. (Al) Crandall of St. Paul, MN, John (Barry) Crandall of Menahga and Thomas Crandall of Menahga; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Donald (Agnes) Crandall of Cool, CA; 2 sisters: Alice (Harold) Sorenson of Menahga, Lillian Maki of Hibbing, MN; and many nieces and nephews. FORDYCE L. CRANDALLJune 17, 1915 " July 27, 2009 Fordyce L. Crandall passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at the age of 94, at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, MN. Fordyce was born on June 17, 1915 to Will and Florence (Bennet) Crandall in Wheaton, MN. He was the fourth of 13 children. At a young age, his family moved to South Dakota and then to Menahga where he grew up and attended school through the 8th grade. During World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army serving in the 436th Signal Corp. Co. B Heavy Construction BN from March 1942 to August of 1945 in Australia, New Guinea and the Morotai Island. In 1947, he was united in marriage to Ethel Hanninen in Bovey, MN. They lived in Minneapolis, Montana and Menahga working in the logging industry for most of his life until he retired. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards with family and friends, fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with is grandchildren & great grandchildren. He could fix anything and was a jack of all trades working hard all his life. He was a life-time member of the Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post #6206 in Menahga. He is survived by 2 daughters: Barbara (Jerry) Bake of Blaine, MN and Betty (Jim) Johnson of Menahga, MN; 3 sons: Fordyce Jr. (Al) Crandall of St. Paul, MN, John (Barry) Crandall of Menahga and Thomas Crandall of Menahga; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Donald (Agnes) Crandall of Cool, CA; 2 sisters: Alice (Harold) Sorenson of Menahga, Lillian Maki of Hibbing, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel in 1999; 2 sons: Stanley and Terry; his parents; 4 sisters: Flida, Irene, Vernice, Blanche and 5 brothers: Merlin, Lloyd, Delmer, Gordon and William. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga with Reverend John Fair officiating. Hymns will be: "The Old Rugged Cross" & "Peace In The Valley". Casketbearers will be: Ken Hanninen, Bob Hanninen, Durwin Tomperi, David Tomperi, Kevin Tomperi and Brad Carlson. Honorary casketbearers will be his grandchildren & great grandchildren. Interment will be made in the Alajoki Cemetery in Blueberry Twp., Wadena Co., MN. Military honors will be conducted by the Guy L. McDermeit VFW Post #6206 of Menahga. A luncheon will be served at the Menahga VFW following the service for all to attend. Visitation will held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the funeral home.
