ARTHUR DUANE BOEHNE March 3, 1933 ~ August 8, 2009 Arthur Duane Boehne, age 76, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2009 at his home in Park Rapids, MN in the company of his wife, Margaret "Punky" and other family members. He was born on March 3, 1933 to Arthur E. Boehne and Delia Danielson on a farm located about 5 miles southeast of Deer Creek, Minnesota. He was the 2nd to the youngest of eight children. His siblings include: Elaine, Maurice, Edgar, Norma, Carol, Gordon, and Genevieve. Art attended grade school (Grades one though eight) at District 94 in Compton Township, Ottertail County and high school at Wadena High School in Wadena, Minnesota. He graduated in 1951 and then moved to Minneapolis where he attended the Institute of Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He left there after being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. He was assigned duty in Italy where he served as a Personnel Classification and Assignment Specialist. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953 as an E-4 and returned to the Minneapolis area to attend school. Immediately after his discharge, Art was accepted at Macalester College in St. Paul and earned a 4 year Bachelor of Arts Degree in June 1958 with a major in Journalism and minor in Political Science. While attending college he worked full time at the Minneapolis Star and Tribune. Following graduation from Macalester, Art worked as a copy writer in the advertising department at Sears Roebuck and Co. He also continued his part-time employment at the Mpls. Star and Tribune. He was united in marriage on February 14, 1959 to Margaret Walker at The Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. They have three children, Jacqueline, John and Craig. In April, 1967, Art was hired as a Minnesota Corrections Agent and worked out of St. Paul until October 1968 when he was hired as the Court Services Director for Ottertail County. He remained in this position until February 1993 when he retired to his and Margaret"s rural 40 acre hobby farm near Wadena where they had resided since 1978. In 1997 they moved to a home on Boulder Lake in Nevis, MN. In 2004 Art was diagnosed with Lewy Body Disease and was hospitalized for several weeks in Park Rapids and Rochester, MN. He subsequently spent eight months at the Henning Nursing Home. After leaving the nursing home in July 2005, he and Margaret lived one year in Henning, MN before moving back to Summerfield Place in Park Rapids. He continued his treatment for Lewy body disease and participated in research and study groups at Mayo Clinic in Rochester until his diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia on July 2, 2009. Art and Margaret enjoyed traveling to out-of- state destinations and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by taking a trip to Biloxi, MS. Art"s interests included reading, playing cards, camping, traveling, lawn and garden work, boating, and puttering around in the garage and workshop. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Jacqueline (Steven) Christenson of Fergus Falls, MN; two sons, John Boehne of Park Rapids, Craig (Ronda) Boehne of Eagan; two sisters, Elaine Matteson of Edina, MN, Carol Hopper of Perris CA; one brother, Gordon (JoAnn) of Cross Lake, MN; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Sophia; two sisters, Norma Boehne, Genevieve Quesenberry; and two brothers, Maurice Boehne and Edgar Boehne. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Itasca State Park with Reverend Russ Paulson officiating. Military honors provided by the Star of the North Marine Corp League.
