DONALD J. "Don" COLE October 17, 1935 ~ August 28, 2009 Donald J. "Don" Cole, age 73, formerly of Hackensack, MN, passed away on August 28th, 2009 at his home due to cancer. Don was born in Clinton, Iowa, on October 17th, 1935 to Jack and Louise Cole. Attending school in Hackensack, MN, Don was active in many sports, but basketball was his favorite. After graduation in May 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army where he trained scout dogs in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge in 1956, he went on to have an adventurous life of traveling. On May 9th, 1958 Don was united in marriage to the love of his life Mary Jane Cole. Don and Mary Jane lived in such places as Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Minnesota, California, and Utah which gave him many opportunities for numerous interesting and fulfilling jobs. These included such things as boat captain, fishing guide, photographer, salesman, sports editor, and owner of restaurants and newspapers. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed bowling, horse racing, and playing cribbage/cards. He loved spending time fishing with his kids and grandkids. He participated in many organizations and social actives which included: Veterans of Foreign Wars and Cooties, American Legion, Elks, Jaycees, Eagles, and De Molay. He is survived by his children: Robyn, Jack, Roger, and Susan Cole, and 8 grandchildren: Kaicy, Darian, Chandler, Dharma, Ryan, Hunter, Alexis, and Keeley who all love him, miss him, and will never forget him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Mary Jane. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN with Reverend Loren Ferch officiating. Casketbearers will be: Charles Cole, Chuck Cole, Roger Cole, Rod Copley, Reggie Weiss and Brad Shearer. Honorary casketbeares will be Don"s grandchildren. Military honors will be provided by the Star of the North Marine Corp League of Park Rapids. Interment will be made at the State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.
