CRYSTAL MAY OLSONApril 20, 1909 ~ September 1, 2009 Crystal May Olson, age 100 of Park Rapids, MN, passed away quietly on Tuesday morning September 1, 2009 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN. She was a wonderful woman, a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Crystal was born in Crow Wing Township, Hubbard County, Minnesota on April 20, 1909. She was the third of seven children born to William Harrison Bennor and Ella May Beebe, early homesteaders of Badoura, MN. On July 2, 1927 she was united in marriage to her sweetheart Judd Martin Wise, also known as "Shorty". They were blessed with two daughters, Betty Catherine and Beatrice Carol. Crystal spent many hours sewing, cooking, gardening and canning to help provide for her little family. Many friends and neighbors passed through their home. No one was ever turned away if they had a need. Crystal was a child of God and received comfort and joy reading her bible and in prayer during her life. She was a newspaper correspondent for several local papers and enjoyed that greatly. She also found enjoyment scrapbooking and always had a scrapbook in the works and many completed. Precious letters, pictures, and cards were kept in her scrapbooks ready to bring out to enjoy again and again. She made a great many baby quilts and always had one ready for each new baby. After being widowed in 1962 she remarried again in 1966 to Ben Olson and enjoyed his companionship until his death in 1980. Crystal also enjoyed traveling to visit family and made many trips to Embarrass, MN and out to Aurora, Oregon to see her daughters, their husbands and her grandchildren. Crystal and her first husband Judd were among the founding members of the Akeley VFW and she was recently awarded her 60 year membership pin, which pleased her greatly. She is survived by her daughter, Betty (Wally) Case of Aurora, Oregon; grandchildren: Kathy (Tim) VanKurin, Ron (Amy) Carlson, Lori (Ed) Stiner, Lynn (Cindy) Carlson, Pam (Vic) Leder, Betty (Darren) Klimek, Marty Case, Matthew Case, Judd (Donna) Carlson; 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Crystal was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Judd and Ben; her daughter, Carol; and all her siblings except Emily who passed away 18 hours after Crystal. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Assembly of God Church in Park Rapids, MN with Reverend Art Wood officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The pianist will be Valdonna Jensen. The soloist will be Pat Arndt she will sing "Amazing grace", and "What A Day That Will Be." The congregational hymn will be "How Great Thou Art." Active casketbearers will be John Nelson, Charles Olson, Donald Parks, Mike Nethercutt, Darren Klimek, and Matthew Klimek. The honorary casketbearer will be David Bennor. Interment will be made in the Akeley Cemetery in Akeley, MN. Memorials are preferred, in Crystal"s name, to The St. Joseph"s Home Health Care of Park Rapids or to the Akeley Cemetery.
