VERLYN E. GOODMANSONJune 3, 1918 ~ September 28, 2009 Verlyn E. Goodmanson, age 91, of Santa Barbara, CA, formerly of Minneapolis, MN, and Park Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Buena Vista Care Center in Santa Barbara, CA. Verlyn was born on June 3, 1918 to Emil & Emma Topel in Merrill, WI. After growing into womanhood, Verlyn was united in marriage to Duane Goodmanson on October 2, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN. The young couple made their home in Minneapolis. This union was blessed with 5 sons: Dale, Dennis, Duane, Don and David. Verlyn gained employment at a Lutheran school in the Minneapolis area where she worked as a cook for a number of years. Though she was a busy mother and wife who worked outside the home, she found time to enjoy square dancing with her husband, Duane, and also kept busy doing an assortment of crafts and especially enjoyed ceramics, knitting and quilting. Verlyn was also an excellent cook and baker and will long be remembered for her famous macaroni and cheese and home-made apple pies. As her children were growing up, the family often traveled to Park Rapids during the warm summer months. It was here that the family built a cabin on Long Lake which the whole family loved. Following their retirement, Verlyn and Duane moved to their beloved cabin on Long Lake in Park Rapids. During Minnesota"s cold winter months, Verlyn and Duane ventured to warmer weather in Donna, Texas. They were blessed with the many friends they made in both Minnesota and Texas. Verlyn and Duane were also pleased as their sons" also enjoyed the Park Rapids area and many of them have made it their home, at least part time. This allowed Verlyn to spend quality time with her family whom she loved dearly. For the last year and a half, Verlyn enjoyed living with her son, Dale and her daughter-in-law, Agnes in California, who lovingly cared for her up until her passing. Verlyn was able to make a trip back to Park Rapids this past 4th of July to spend the holiday with her many family members and friends. Verlyn was also blessed in the days before the Lord called her home as she was visited in California by all four of her surviving sons and their wives. Verlyn is survived by 4 sons: Dale (Agnes) of CA, Dennis (Jean) of Park Rapids, Don (Yvonne) of Park Rapids, and David (Chris) of AZ; 1 daughter-in-law, Virginia of Minneapolis; 19 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
