FUNERAL SERVICES : Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 23, 2009 at the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids with Father Thomas Friedl officiating.VISITATION : 6-8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. INTERMENT : St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Cemetery in Park Rapids.SURVIVORS : He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Jane Horn of Littleton, CO, Jim Becker and his wife, Linda of Osage, Kathy and her husband, Ron Collum of Minnetonka, David Becker and his wife, Paula of Wilmington, NC, Cheryl Becker of Roseville, MN, Greta and her husband, Rick Lapka of Brainerd, MN, Bob Becker of Green Valley Twp., and Keith Becker and his wife, Kathy of Dorset, MN; 12 grandchildren: Nicole, Jason, Josh, Jenny, Paul, Heather, Alicia, Devon, Lacey, Jeremy, Anthony and Austin; 15 great grandchildren. VERNON EVERETT BECKER August 22, 1917 " November 18, 2009 Vernon Everett Becker, age 92, of Green Valley Township, Becker County, MN passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, peacefully at his home. Vernon was born on August 22, 1917 to Valentine and Jannette (Nugent) Becker in Green Valley Township. It was in this area he attended a country school and later high school in Park Rapids. Vernon served 3 years in the United States Army during WWII from July 30, 1942 to November 11, 1945. He served as a medic in North Africa, Italy and Germany. On March 6, 1943 Vernon was united in marriage to Alice Schmitz at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. This union was blessed with nine children: Ken, Jane, Jim, Kathy, David, Cheryl, Greta, Bob and Keith. Vernon was in the construction business for many years until retiring in 1979. He enjoyed restoring antiques, and working on his gas engines. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Jane Horn of Littleton, CO, Jim Becker and his wife, Linda of Osage, Kathy and her husband, Ron Collum of Minnetonka, David Becker and his wife, Paula of Wilmington, NC, Cheryl Becker of Roseville, MN, Greta and her husband, Rick Lapka of Brainerd, MN, Bob Becker of Green Valley Twp., and Keith Becker and his wife, Kathy of Dorset, MN; 12 grandchildren: Nicole, Jason, Josh, Jenny, Paul, Heather, Alicia, Devon, Lacey, Jeremy, Anthony and Austin; 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice; son, Kenneth; son-in-law, Bill Horn; 1 infant daughter; 1 great grandchild; a sister, Florence; and 4 brothers: Alvin, Bob, Henry and Clarence. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 23, 2009 at the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids with Father Thomas Friedl officiating. The St. Peter Alleluia choir will provide the music. Joy Horejsi will be the organist. Casketbearers will be Vernon"s grandsons: Jason Horn, Josh Becker, Paul Collum, Jeremy Becker, Devon Becker, Anthony Becker and Austin Becker. Honorary casketbearers will be Vernon"s granddaughters: Nicole Hamilton, Heather Collum, Jenny Eischens, Lacey Hitchcock and Alicia Martin. Interment will be made in the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Cemetery in Park Rapids. A luncheon will be hosted at the church following the services for all to attend. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
