Wally was born on August 7, 1920 in Yola, MN near Lake George to James and Nina (Bingham) Carson. It was in this same area that he attended the Yola Country School and worked on his parent"s farm. As a young man he entered the United States Navy in 1942, where he bravely served his country in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. During much of his tour he was stationed in Papua, New Guinea where he contracted malaria and was hospitalized for an extended time. He received his honorable discharge in 1946 and returned to the Lake George area. On May 26, 1973, after living as a bachelor for many years, Wally was united in marriage to the lady he called "the prettiest gal in Park Rapids", Sarah Boots. Sarah was a young widow who brought seven children into their marriage who Wally loved and cared for as his own. In addition, this union was blessed with three children: Paul, Traci and Janis. Wally loved spending time in the great out doors. He enjoyed working with firewood and the beauty of God"s handiwork. He was a masterful storyteller who appreciated spending time with family and friends. He loved reading God"s Word each day and throughout his lifetime was a serious student of the Bible. He treasured his years of association with both the First Baptist Church and the Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids. Wally will be long remembered for his eternally quick wit and refreshing sense of humor. Above all, Wally devoted his life to his soulmate and bride, Sarah; his ten children and his grandchildren all of whom he loved with all his heart.
