FUNERAL SERVICES : Memorial services will be held 2 PM Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with the Reverend Chris Davis officiating.VISITATION : one hour prior to servicesINTERMENT :SURVIVORS : Orv will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mabel; his sons: Kenneth (Deb) Ladely of Ponder, Texas and Bill (Wanda) Ladely of Nevis, MN; two grand daughters: Megan and Robin and l grandson, Richard; l great granddaughter, Regan Lee; his brother, Joseph Ladely of Petaluma, CA as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. ORVILLE DUANE LADELY June 23, 1918 " December 22, 2009 Orville Duane Ladely, age 91 of Nevis, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN. Orville was born on June 23, 1918 in Deep River, Iowa to Joseph and Lona (Sanders) Ladely. As a small boy he moved with his family to North Dakota where they settled on a farm near Devils Lake. It was in this same area that Orville attended the Webster Country School and grew into manhood. As a young man, he joined the North Dakota National Guard where he was trained as a heavy equipment operator. In 1940, Orv"s family moved to a farm north of Dorset, MN where he helped and also took up truck driving. In 1941, Orv entered the United States Army where he proudly served his country in the South Pacific theatre of WWII as a member of the Engineering Battalion. In fact, Orv was in the South Pacific when Pearl Harbor was bombed and his company was immediately dispatched to Hawaii to help rebuild the island. During his tour of duty, Orv spent 45 months based at Okinawa, Japan where he stayed until the Japanese surrendered. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Orv purchased a farm near Dorset where he dairy farmed and raised the crops needed to feed his herd. On May 30, 1947, Orv was united in marriage to Mabel Louise Hoefs at the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. This union was blessed with two sons: Ken and Bill. In addition to farming, Orv also worked with his brother-in-law, Jess Reko in his plumbing business. Later, Orv built houses for the Walsh Lumber Company for many years. While semi-retired, Orv worked on the Lowell Warne farm and on the Leo and Lynn Gartner dairy farm. Orv was an excellent mechanic and welder and throughout his life was very talented at building and repairing farm machinery. He was a long time member of the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. Orv loved the out doors and in his younger years, enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. Above all, Orv devoted his life to his precious wife, Mabel; his children, grand children and great granddaughter all of whom he loved with all his heart. Orv will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mabel; his sons: Kenneth (Deb) Ladely of Ponder, Texas and Bill (Wanda) Ladely of Nevis, MN; two grand daughters: Megan and Robin and l grandson, Richard; l great granddaughter, Regan Lee; his brother, Joseph Ladely of Petaluma, CA as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorial services will be held 2 PM Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with the Reverend Chris Davis officiating. Wayne Schroeder will sing "Many Mansions". Special music selections will be "Just As I Am" and "Amazing Grace". Following the service a luncheon reception will be hosted by the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset.
