Evelyn was born on June 26, 1909 in Haley, North Dakota to Adolph and Olive (Jenson) Hulberg. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Southern MN where they farmed in Scott County. Tragically, her father died when Evelyn was just three years old. Her mother later remarried and the family relocated to Park Rapids, MN where Evelyn attended public school and grew into womanhood. As a young woman, Evelyn met Harold Condiff at a resort where they were both employed. The young couple was united in marriage on September 5, 1927 in Park Rapids. They were blessed with six children: Betty, Beverly, Donald, Gary, Gloria and Janelle. Evelyn devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade breads, cinnamon & caramel rolls and her tasty Norwegian tea rings. She was also a wonderful seamstress and would often work late into the night sewing clothes for her family. God blessed her with a beautiful voice and she was often asked to sing at weddings and funerals and was a faithful voice in the St. Johns Lutheran Church Choir. In addition to her many family and church involvements, Evelyn also assisted Harold in his live bait business for many years. For a time she also worked as an assistant cook at Park Rapids Schools. Evelyn loved the out of doors. She and Harold enjoyed picking blueberries and chokecherries from which she would make jars of delicious preserves and syrups. Each spring, she and Harold would plant a large vegetable garden which she would nurture into fruitful abundance to share with her family and friends. She was a faithful member of St Johns Lutheran Church where she was also an active part of the Ladies Aid for many years. Evelyn was a member of the TOPS organization for many years. In her spare time, Evelyn enjoyed sewing and quilting many gifts for her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed working on handcrafts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1999 and since that time has made her home at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.
