CARL OLE OLSON January 3, 1923 ~ April 23, 2010 Carl Ole Olson, age 87 of Lake George, MN, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 23, 2010 at St. Josephs Area Health Services in Park Rapids, MN. Carl was born to Ludvig and Louise (Opsahl) Olson on January 3, 1923 in Stockholm Township, Wright County, Minnesota. He attended country school near his home through the eighth grade. He then attended Litchfield High School. In 1943 Carl joined the United States Navy. He served his country in the Pacific Theater of War until his honorable discharge in 1946. Upon his return to the States he worked for a time with the Civilian Conservation Corps. Returning to Cokato, Carl was reacquainted with Elsie Leukuma. They were engaged on Valentines Day and united in marriage on June 28, 1947. The young couple made their home in Minneapolis where they resided for over 50 years and raised two beautiful daughters: Cynthia and Debra. Carl gained employment at the Munsingwear Company as a sewing machine maintenance man in a career that spanned almost 30 years. He was a member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis where he served on the church board. A few years after his retirement in 1994, Carl and Elsie moved to their home in Lake George. They became members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George. Carl was also a member of The American Legion in Park Rapids, MN and the Disabled American Veterans. Carl and Elsie enjoyed traveling and were able to visit much of the continental United States. They also took trips to Alaska and the Bahamas. In his younger days Carl was an avid bowler and belonged to various leagues through the years. Above all, Carl was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Carl will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Elsie Olson of Lake George, MN; two daughters, Cindy Wilson of Belgrade, MN and Debra Olson of Ettrick, Wisconsin; 7 grandchildren: Angela Drum, Jason Drum, Ryan Wilson, Jessica Johnson, Jennifer Bursaw, Kysa Bursaw, Benjamin Huffman; 7 great grandchildren; two sisters, Deloris (Jack) Spalding of Anderson, CA, Mary Leukuma of Dassel, MN; one brother, Phillip Olson of Dassel, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Bruce Wilson, 1 brother, Ruben Olson, and 1 sister Phyllis Molliter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at The Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George with Reverend Donald Kirchner officiating. Congregational hymns will be "How Great Thou Art", "Great is Thy Faithfulness", and "Abide With Me." Active casketbearers will be Jason Drum, Ryan Wilson, Carroll Kahlstorf, Lenny Wagner, Brian Hermes and John Westad. Honorary casketbearers will be all of Carl"s Grandchildren and his Great Grandchildren. Military Honors will be provided by the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post# 212 of Park Rapids and the Star of the North Marine Corps League of Park Rapids. Ray Vaadeland will play taps. Interment will be made in the Lake George Cemetery in Lake George, MN.
