Grandchildren: Joe`l (Mike) Flesher, Roberta (Gerald) Haas, Carleen Danks, Cristine Prevost, Rodney Hindberg, Raymond Hindberg, Sheri (Jeff) Reuss, Teresa (Doug) Duscher, Beth (Shawn) Anderson, Jake Hindberg, Lisa Sullivan and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Donald (Marge) Cekalla, Deerwood, MN, Valeria (Roger) Carlson, Park Rapids, MN, Dolores Pritchard, Park Rapids, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Maxine Mary Hindberg May 15, 1928 ~ April 23, 2010 Minnesota"s last surviving WW1 Veteran widow passes away. Maxine Mary Hindberg, formerly of Lake George, entered into eternal rest April 23, 2010 at the Golden Living Center Meadow Lane in Benson, Minnesota. Maxine was born in Crookston, Minnesota on May 15, 1928. Her family moved to North Dakota until they moved back to Lake Alice, Minnesota in 1946. Her father and mother worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and Works Projects Administration (WPA) camp at Itasca State Park. Her father Alex set the stones in the stairway leading to Lake Itasca, by Douglas Lodge, at the State Park. She met Carl Hindberg, who had a portable saw mill in the area and they were married May 19, 1947. They built their home in Lake George where Carl operated the saw mill with Ralph Jackson, next to their property for many years. Maxine worked at Chateau Paulette and Val Chatel until she met her calling working for Earl Burnham at the Lake Alice store. There Maxine was publicized for the best hamburgers in northern Minnesota in the Fins and Feathers magazine. She loved to work in her garden and cook. She baked over 75 blueberry pies for the Lake George Blueberry Festival in one week. Her children say she made the best sauerkraut, cinnamon rolls and of course, blueberry pie. Visitation will be Thursday evening, April 29, 2010, from 5 " 7:00 P.M. at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. Funeral services will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George, MN at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 30, 2010, with Reverend Donald Kirchner officiating. Interment will be made at the Lake George Cemetery. The family is awaiting official notification that Maxine is the last widow in the United States of a WW1 Veteran to pass away.
