FUNERAL SERVICES : Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN.VISITATION : one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.INTERMENT : 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Mandan Union Cemetery in Mandan, North Dakota.SURVIVORS :Sally will be lovingly remembered by her son, James J. (Helen) Berger of Springfield, VA; her daughter, Diana (Jim) Gilbert of Zap, ND; her four beloved grandchildren: Dr. Andrea Berger of Mt. Prospect, IL, Matt Berger of Williamsburg, VA, James Gilbert of Bismarck, ND and Boe Gilbert of Stanton, ND; two great grandchildren, Bianna Gilbert and Ethan Gilbert; her sister, Eleanor Schumacker of Great Falls, MT and her brother, Larry Zander of Lake Park, MN; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. SALLY HAMMARGREN September 27, 1930 " June 19, 2010 Sally Hammargren, age 79 of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Mandan, ND, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 19, 2010 surrounded by her loved ones. Sally was born on September 27, 1930 in Mandan, ND to George and Veronica (Stein) Zander. It was in this same area that she attended the Crown Butte District country school near her parent"s farm. As a young woman, Sally worked on her parent"s farm helping care for their livestock and laboring in the fields to raise the crops needed to feed their herds. On October 28, 1948, Sally was united in marriage to Matthew Berger in Mandan. This union was blessed with three children: James, Diana and Patric. Sally devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will long be remembered for her delicious oven baked chicken and sour cream and raisin pie. In addition to home making, Sally worked for Cloverdale Foods of Mandan in a career that spanned over 40 years. Her life was saddened by the death of her first husband, Matthew who died in her arms of a massive heart attack while they were dancing together. She also experienced the grief of losing her son, Patric in Tucson. On July 10 of 1981, Sally was married to Floyd Hammargren in South Dakota. In 1993, Sally and Floyd moved to Park Rapids, MN where they made their home on the shores of Fish Hook Lake. Sally worked at Lamb Weston-RDO in Park Rapids for 17 years. Floyd preceded Sally in death on June 4, 2006. Sally has continued to reside at her lake home where she enjoyed caring for her large and beautiful yard. Sally was a woman who loved life and people. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, gardening, spending meaningful time with her family and friends, watching the sun rise and set on Fish Hook Lake, shopping for bargains and watching the birds. Above all, Sally devoted her life to her family and friends who she loved with all her heart. Sally will be lovingly remembered by her son, James J. (Helen) Berger of Springfield, VA; her daughter, Diana (Jim) Gilbert of Zap, ND; her four beloved grandchildren: Dr. Andrea Berger of Mt. Prospect, IL, Matt Berger of Williamsburg, VA, James Gilbert of Bismarck, ND and Boe Gilbert of Stanton, ND; two great grandchildren, Bianna Gilbert and Ethan Gilbert; her sister, Eleanor Schumacker of Great Falls, MT and her brother, Larry Zander of Lake Park, MN; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Memorial services will be held 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids with Father Thomas Friedel officiating. The organist will be Joy Horejsi. The Alleluia Choir will lead the mass music. The honorary casket bearers will be: Mae Benjamin, Jan O"Bannon, Lenny Eix, Jackie Roberts, Rich Coulter, Pat Monson, Bonnie Brandenburg, and Steve Jordahl. Interment will be made in the Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will be hosted by St. Peters for all following the service.
