MILDRED LORRAINE LAINEDecember 31, 1929 " August 4, 2010 Mildred Lorraine Laine, age 80 of Park Rapids, MN formerly of the Menahga area, peacefully passed into Eternal life on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN. Mildred was born on December 31, 1929 in Meadow Township of Wadena County southeast of Menahga to Arvid and Anna (Bimberg) Newhouse. It was in this same area that she attended country school near her parent"s farm and grew into womanhood. She was united in marriage to Delano Laine on March 24, 1962. She made her home on the Crow Wing River east of Menahga where she took great delight in hosting her family and friends on picnics and swimming outings. She especially enjoyed the many times spent with her nieces and nephews. Mildred loved the out of doors. Each spring she looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden which she would nurture into fruitful abundance to share with her family and friends. She also enjoyed raising beautiful flowers into colorful splendor for all to see and enjoy. She also enjoyed time spent out in the woods picking berries of all kinds. She loved music and found great fulfillment in listening to many different formats. For many years, Mildred was employed at the Baudoura Tree Nursery where she again found great satisfaction working in the out of doors and helping nature grow vigorous seedlings until her retirement. In spite of suffering a debilitating stroke 12 years ago, Mildred remained positive and was always happy to see her loved ones. She will be lovingly remembered by her two brothers: Archie (Velma) Newhouse and James Newhouse all of Menahga; her two sisters: Violet (Marlyn) Meckala of Parkville, MN and Janice (Delbert) Warmbold of Menahga; as well as several nieces, nephews, other family, many friends and all the staff at the Heritage Living Center. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fred; sister, Ellen and a brother and sister in infancy. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral in Menahga with the Reverend Arthur Wood officiating. Dwayne Cook will both serve as soloist and organist and will sing, "We Will Dance". The congregational hymn will be: "Softly And Tenderly". A special musical tribute of "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" will also be played. The casket bearers will be John Meckala, John Mitchell, Allen Newhouse, Charlie Newhouse, Lloyd Sporre and Jerry Immonen. Interment will be made in the Menahga City Cemetery.
