DOROTHY EILEEN AMUNDSONMay 9, 1934 ~ August 23, 2010 Dorothy Eileen Amundson, age 76 of Belgrade, MN, formerly of Park Rapids, MN, passed away on August 23, 2010 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN. Dorothy was born on May 9, 1934 to Rudolph and Francis (Christlieb) Hensel at the family farm in Becker County, MN. She grew up in the Park Rapids, MN area, where she was baptized on June 24, 1934 and confirmed into the Christian faith on June 4, 1950. Dorothy received her primary schooling in Park Rapids and attended the Park Rapids High School. On June 28, 1954, Dorothy was united in marriage to Leonard H. Amundson, this union was blessed with five daughters. Dorothy and Leonard moved to Fairmont after their daughters were born. In 1961, they moved to Belgrade where they owned and operated Len"s Repair Shop. The family then moved to Lake Lillian in 1972, from there they moved to Red Lake in 1976, where they owned and operated the Red Lake Store. In 1979, Dorothy and Leonard built a home near Two Inlets. After Leonard"s death, Dorothy continued to reside in the Park Rapids area until 1997, when she moved to Belgrade to live with her daughter. Dorothy was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN. She was also a long time member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #1825 in Belgrade. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, playing cards and quilting. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Sue (Ernie) Jensen of Belgrade, MN; Donna Amundson of Winlock, WA; Shelly (Keith) Franklin of Menahga, MN and Kim (Dave) Ramquist of Hammond, WI; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters: Marian Snelling of Park Rapids, MN; Lorraine (Jim) Wilmes of Menahga, MN; Sharon Yliniemi of Osage, MN; Shirley DeMaris of Babbit, MN; brothers: Walter (Florence) Hensel, Willis Hensel, Lloyd (Virginia) Hensel and John Hensel, all of Park Rapids, MN. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; an infant daughter and brothers, Donald and Marvin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. " 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August, 28, 2010 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, MN and from 5:00 p.m. " 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. The active casket bearers will be: Mike Hensel, Ron Hensel, Greg Hensel, Jeff Hensel, Ken Hensel and Lyle Wilmes. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids, MN.
