MARIE H. KAMRUDAugust 16, 1928 " September 2, 2010 Marie H. Kamrud, age 82 of Park Rapids, MN, formerly a long time Osage area resident, peacefully entered eternal life on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids. Marie was born on August 16, 1928 in Toad Lake Township of Becker County near Wolf Lake, MN on the farm of her parents, Samuel and Hilda (Kippola) Yliniemi. It was in this same area that she attended country school through the eighth grade before going on to attend high school in Frazee from where she graduated with the Class of 1946. As a young woman, Marie ventured to Minneapolis where she gained employment. She returned home to care for her ailing mother. After her mother"s passing, Marie began working for the MN Forestry Department as a secretary/receptionist, dispatcher and a fire spotter in the forest towers. While working there she met a young forester named Kenneth Korpi. They were married on September 16, 1949. This union was blessed with a son, Kevin. Ken was stricken with brain cancer which he fought courageously until the time of his death in 1959. Marie and her one year old son, Kevin purchased a home in Osage where Marie worked as a secretary at the Pine Point School in Ponsford. There she met a young educator, Otto N. Kamrud and the young couple were married on May 2, 1964 in Park Rapids. Otto adopted Kevin who he loved and raised like his own. In addition, the Kamrud"s were blessed with twin sons, Karl and Kurt. Marie devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her husband and sons. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade chicken and rice, meatballs and gravy and her finnish Moijaka. Marie was a long time member of St. Johns Lutheran Church where she participated in a variety of ministries. She had been involved in township government, serving as the Osage Township Treasurer for many years. She was very active in the Osage Lions Club where she had held a number of offices and had earned the esteemed Melvin Jones Fellowship. Her work in Lionism included assisting Otto when he served as the Lions District 5-M9 Governor and working with the Lions District Diabetes Committee. Marie was involved for a number of years working with the Becker County Housing Authority operating under the Federal HUD program, insuring the availability of quality housing. In addition, Marie kept busy working with needlepoint, crocheting, sewing and looming rugs. She also nurtured a large vegetable garden each year and enjoyed raising colorful flowers into their full splendor. Above all, Marie devoted her life to her children and grandchildren who she loved with all her heart. Marie will be lovingly remembered by her three sons: Kevin (Dianna) Kamrud of Carson City, NV, Kurt (Carmen) Kamrud of Apex, NC and Karl (Peggy) Kamrud of Wildwood, MO, five much loved grandchildren: Emily, Kathryn, Brett, Kari and Kristopher; her brother, Elmer "Jake" (Madeline) Yliniemi of Park Rapids and her sister, Anna Johnson of Osage, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto in 2004 and eleven brothers: Wilbert, Hugo, Jalmer, Ervin, John, Arthur, Adolf, George, Rudolph, Arnold and infant brother, Einar. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, September 6, 2010 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids with Pastor Jim Neubauer and Pastor Tim Heinecke officiating. The casket bearers will be: Chucky Yliniemi, Kelly Yliniemi, Arthur Yliniemi, Ronnie Yliniemi, Hilda Sowden, Kathy Brose, Connie Henderson and Jody Yliniemi. The Osage Lions will serve as honorary casket bearers. Interment will be made next to her husband, Otto in the Pickeral Lake Cemetery near Wolf Lake. Visitation will be held from 5PM to 8 PM on Sunday, Sept. 5th at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and again on Monday beginning one hour prior to the services at the church. Following the service a luncheon will be hosted by St. Johns Lutheran Church for all. In leiu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
