ESTHER L. BITTMANJune 22, 1922 " September 29, 2010 Esther L. Bittman, age 88, of Bemidji, MN, formerly of the Park Rapids, MN area, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Colleen"s Caring Hands Assisted Living in Bemidji. Esther was born on June 22, 1922 near Two Inlets, MN to Frank and Katharina (Schmitz) Bittman. She was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Mary"s Catholic Church in Two Inlets. It was in this same area that she grew up and began working for her sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and Wallace Hitt on their dairy farm. Esther enjoyed farm life. She liked to assist in the care and feeding of the livestock, milking the cows and working in the fields planting and harvesting the crops needed to feed their herd. In 1962, she ventured to Ontario, CA where she worked for Bertha and Wallace in a janitorial service which they owned for many years. She returned to the Park Rapids area in 1995 where she was involved with the Day Activity Center for many years. Her work at the DAC consisted of making rugs and doing woodwork during her time there. In her spare time, Esther enjoyed doing needlework. Due to failing health she moved to Bemidji where she resided at Colleen"s Caring Hands Assisted Living right up until the time of her death. Esther will be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers: Arnold, Richard, Phillip and Edwin and 4 sisters: Bertha (Wallace) Hitt, Eleanor (Clifford) Rohrer, Caroline (Joseph) Glatzmaier and Virginia (Lee) Hendren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Two Inlets, MN with Father Thomas Friedl officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Green Acres Cemetery in Bloomington, CA.
