CARL W. MARTHMay 7, 1914 ~ October 5, 2010 Carl W. Marth, age 96, of Lake Park, MN; formerly of Park Rapids and St. Paul, MN passed away on October 5, 2010 at the Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, MN. Carl was born on May 7, 1914 to immigrant German minister, Carl and his wife, Martha (Beer) Marth in Hinton, Iowa. Carl was the youngest of twelve children and endured the loss of his mother before he turned one year old. His school years were spent in Chester, SD where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Baldwin. The young couple was united in marriage on August 5, 1933 in Sioux Falls, SD. This union was blessed with three children: Janice, Roger and Michael. Carl was in United States Army during WWII; serving in both the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. After he was honorably discharged, he moved his family from Sioux Falls, SD to St. Paul, MN. He found himself working in sales for a marine business and later for a paper supply house until his retirement at the age of 70. He also took great pleasure in helping his wife, Dorothy build a premier catering service for the Twin Cities area. Carl and Dorothy moved from the Twin Cities area to Park Rapids, MN in April 2000. It was a few months later that he endured the heartache of losing his loving wife, Dorothy. Above all, Carl devoted himself to the happiness of his children, grand children, great grandchildren and great great grandchild who he loved with all his heart. Carl will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Janice (Russell) Wann of St. Paul, MN; two sons: Roger (Marge) Marth of Park Rapids, MN and Michael (Elaine) Marth of Eden Prairie, MN; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister, Clare "Honey" Weise of Vergas, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; daughter-in-law, Suzanne; son-in-law, Russell Wann and 10 siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the St. Peters Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN with Pastor David Wende officiating. The organist and soloist will be Joni Norrgard. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the church. Interment will be held at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
