FUNERAL SERVICES : Private family services will be held.VISITATION :INTERMENT :SURVIVORS : EUNICE E. JACOBSENJune 26, 1924 ~ October 26, 2010 Eunice E. Jacobsen, age 86, a long time Park Rapids area resident, was promoted into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids following a period of declining health. Eunice was born on June 26, 1924 in Chicago, IL to Marcus and Frieda Jacobsen. As a child she moved with her family to Park Rapids, MN where her father built the Lakeview Resort on land that he had purchased on Long Lake and where he also owned and operated a filling station in town. Eunice attended public schools in Park Rapids until her teenage years, when she returned with her parents to finish high school in Chicago, IL. She graduated from the Lakeview High School in 1943. Eunice went on to attend the Henrotin Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago from where she graduated in 1947. Later, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Loyola University in Chicago in 1954. In 1959, Eunice"s quest for learning earned her a Master of Arts degree in Social Studies at the University of Chicago. Eunice dedicated herself to her nursing career where she not only provided skilled nursing care at the hospitals where she worked; but, she also taught nursing to eager students for a number of years. In the later 1940"s Eunice returned to Park Rapids, where she was the second nurse ever hired at St. Joseph"s Hospital in Park Rapids. Later she taught nursing at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Her professional work was also invested at an Indian reservation in Arizona where she provided skilled nursing care and also devoted herself to ministering the native population as a missionary. The last chapter of her professional career was a Professor at the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Evanston, IL. Eunice had a heart for sharing God"s love. She also did missionary nurse volunteer activities at the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago, IL before moving back to Park Rapids in 1994. She had been an active member of Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids for many years. Eunice will be lovingly remembered by her nephew, David Schram; two nieces: Jeanette Sola and Joan Zawistowski all of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Blanche and Anita. Private family services are being arranged with the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home of Park Rapids, MN.
