Harry Hogan Grewing was born on October 6, 1920 on the home farm in Lyons Township, near Nimrod, MN to Herman and Annie (Pickar) Grewing. He attended country school near his home and grew into manhood working on his parents farm and logging. As a young man, he joined the United States Army where he fought on the front lines in France and Germany during World War II. Harry was only 1 of 7 men in his entire company that were not wounded or killed in the heavy fighting. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to the Nimrod area where on March 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to Patricia Alice Hietala. This union was blessed with four children: Keith, Jerry, Jimmy and Melissa. The young couple engaged in farming near Nimrod, eventually settling on a farm south of Nimrod where Harry has called home for 64 years. Harry was a talented worker. He made his living to large degree from the land; farming and logging. He also supplemented his income trucking, doing carpenter work and mowing road ditches for Wadena County. Throughout his entire life Harry was a devoted family man who centered his life around his family. He loved the outdoors; especially when he could be hunting or fishing. He enjoyed working in the woods and spending productive time on his tractors. He looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden which he nurtured into fruitful abundance to meet the needs of his growing family. He will be remembered as a good neighbor and friend who was always ready to help when needed. He was a member of the Nimrod Lutheran Church and the VFW Post in Sebeka and later in Park Rapids. Above all, Harry devoted his life to his precious wife, children and grandchildren who he loved with all his heart. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife for these past 64 years, Patricia of Verndale, MN; his three sons: Keith Grewing of St. Paul, MN, Jerry Grewing of Sebeka, MN and Jimmy Grewing of Verndale, MN; daughter, Melissa (Tom) Orth of Burnsville, MN; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great step-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
