FUNERAL SERVICES : 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN.VISITATION : One hour prior to the services at the church.INTERMENT : Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids, MNSURVIVORS : His wife, Ida; his two daughters: Edith (Carl) Lymburner of Osage and Esther (Russ) Johnsrud of Park Rapids, MN; 4 sons: Philip (Liz) Hoefs of Coon Rapids, MN, Earl (Kathy) Hoefs of Menahga, Paul (Joyce) Hoefs of Mankato, MN and and David (Carol) Hoefs of Park Rapids; 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; brother, Max Hoefs of Menahga and two sisters: Mabel Ladely of Nevis and Jean (Don) Gren of Medford, Oregon. EDWARD C. HOEFSAPRIL 6, 1918 ~ MARCH 11, 2011 Edward Carl Otto Hoefs, age 92, a long time Park Rapids/Menahga, MN area resident, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, March 11, 2011 at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Park Rapids. Ed was born on April 6, 1918 in Straight River Township south of Park Rapids to Otto and Pauline (Welge) Hoefs. At the age of 3, they moved to a farm north of Dorset, MN to care for his grandfather, August Welge. Ed attended Consolidated School in Dorset and worked on his father"s farm. In 1936, he spent the summer helping build the split rock church in Dorset. From 1937 through 1938 he drove the bus route for the school. On June 7, 1939, Ed was united in marriage to Ida M. Blazer at the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. This union was blessed with six children: Edith, Esther, Philip, Earl, Paul and David. The young couple engaged in farming in Straight River Township on the land he was born. Ed was very faithful in his church work. He had served as chairman of the church congregation, the financial secretary, the Sunday School Superintendent, on the Board of Elders and on the Church properties Board. Ed"s family was featured in "This Day" magazine in 1950. Ed and Ida had transferred their church membership over to St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids in 1983. Ed was also active in his community. He had served on the School Board of District #23 Country School in Straight River, he had also served on the board of the MN Valley Breeder"s Association, he clerked in the Menahga Post Office from 1957 " 1972, served as the Postmaser in Guthrie, MN from 1972 " 1979 and then retired as the Postmaster in Menahga in 1982. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ida; his two daughters: Edith (Carl) Lymburner of Osage and Esther (Russ) Johnsrud of Park Rapids, MN; 4 sons: Philip (Liz) Hoefs of Coon Rapids, MN, Earl (Kathy) Hoefs of Menahga, Paul (Joyce) Hoefs of Mankato, MN and and David (Carol) Hoefs of Park Rapids; l6 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; l brother Max Hoefs of Menahga and two sisters: Mabel Ladely of Nevis and Jean (Don) Gren of Medford, Oregon as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Paul and Leonard; l sister, Edith; one granddaughter and one brother-in-law, Orville Ladely. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN with Pastors James Neubauer and Tim Heinecke officiating. The organist was Melissa Koch. The vocalists were Howard Hoefs and Michael Poole singing "How Great Thou Art". The casketbearers were grandsons: William Lymburner, Shawn Hoefs, Jared Hoefs, Craig Hoefs, Trevor Massie and Aaron Hoefs. The honorary casketbearers were: Steve Lymburner, Tim Hoefs, Connie Jones, Max Hoefs, Lisa Miller, Simona Massie, Kristopher Massie, Scott Johnsrud, Jessica Nyland and Carrie Sieberg. Interment was held in the Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation was held for one hour prior to the services at the church.
